Description of role and key responsibilities
Objective of Role
The Collateral Management team assists in the mitigation of credit and regulatory risk to the firm by monitoring exposure levels versus collateral balances.
This function is performed across several asset classes – Equities; FICC (Fixed Income, currency and commodities); Derivatives; structured and financing products. Day to day execution and management of the operational functions for all aspects of the Collateral process.
This person is responsible for not only the day to day execution and processing of Collateral Management but also need to stay abreast of industry and regulatory change and suggest process improvements/enhancements
Day to day functional responsibilities:
Margin call processing:
- Instruct margin calls, interest calculations, life-cycle management of collateral holdings, payment/receive orders in line with Collateral Documentation whist ensuring they are in adherence to firm and industry standard deadlines
- Manage the end to end collateral delivery process including reviewing requirements, tracking receipts and instruction delivery
- Proactive management of default process including undertaking all actions, and communication/escalation to various stakeholder department
- Partner with the business and Treasury in collateral optimisation processes for the firm whilst meeting collateral contract terms
- Liaises with business, counterparties and custodians to follow up on collateral related matters
- Ensure daily complex exception reporting is completed timely with any errors promptly rectified to maintain data integrity standards
** ** Dispute Management:
- Run and coordinate, across various teams, the dispute management process including investigation and resolving discrepancies and disputes with clients/counterparties
- Prompt and clear escalation, transparency of both issues, counterparty defaults, disputes and current status of the collateral process
Portfolio Reconciliation:
- Management of end to end reconciliation internally and externally with our counterparties including trade portfolios, custodian bank positions, cash reconciliations
- Ensuring that outstanding trade and reconciliation breaks are resolved promptly (internally and externally)
- Investigation and root cause analysis of margin disputes including use of portfolio reconciliations
Reconciliation
- Reconciliation and resolution of all Nostro and Stock breaks for the Collateral Team
Client Experience Management:
- Seamless delivery of “best in class” client experience to our counterparties and ensuring issues/queries are escalate/resolved promptly; engaging with clients to improve service levels
- Partner with business, legal and credit to ensure new clients have correct CSA and reporting requirements
- Ensure bespoke client MTM/Valuation reports are generated and sent to clients at beginning of the business day
- Ability to maintain an awareness of changing market conditions and the relevant impact on clients
Additional Responsibilities :
Process Improvement/Change Management
- Participation in firm wide and industry driven initiatives as well as involvement in projects driven by regulatory change e.g. business new product initiatives to ensure collateral management impacts are addressed
- Track, design and implement process improvement (tactical/strategic) driven by issues found in the daily margin processing with a clear focus on enhancing controls and reducing operational risks
Regulatory/Risk & Compliance
- Ensure that all procedures and checklists are kept current and meet the requirements of the department, Internal Audit, external regulators and Operations Risk and Control.
- Escalation of issues/risks to management and operations risk in adherence to documented policies
MI – KPI/KRI
- Production of Monthly MI for Collateral Management process for Operations Management reporting
- Daily “trend analysis” data to be produced to identify increase in places or held collateral calls
Securities Settlements
- Cross train with Securities Settlement team
- Be able to seamless perform the Securities settlement functions
Core skills and knowledge
- To act with integrity at all times and embrace the philosophy of treating our customers fairly (compulsory)
- Regulatory Knowledge as applicable to role (compulsory)
**Technical knowledge **
- Understanding of Collateral Processes and Conventions
- Understanding of existing and industry regulations such as VM, IM for EMIR
- Strong knowledge of the UMR SIMM calculation, inputs and operational flows
- Awareness of different market conventions for the management of Collateral and dispute processes.
- Understanding of trade lifecycles
- Understanding of Securities settlement process
- Understanding of legal documentation – CSA's; GMRA's/MRA; GMSLA's/MSLA; MSFTA's agreements and clearing agreements
- Strong financial analysis skills
- Understanding of CASS rules and regulation
Product Knowledge
- Strong product knowledge required across FICC and EQ asset classes and products and understanding of pricing inputs
Additional skills required
- Intermediate/Advanced Excel skills incl. VBA/Macro
- Strong collaboration skills, interpersonal skills and communications skills (oral & written)
- Methodical, diligent and proactive
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and problem solving
- Ability to handle high pressure situations
- Organizational skills with special emphasis on the ability to prioritize and multi-tasking
- Detail Orientation - specifically the ability to recognize unusual flows/triggers for collateral in agreements and new trade structures
