The Guernsey Voluntary Service (GVS) and its large pool of volunteers runs two day centres. Jubilee Day Centre (JDC) which is open between 09:30 and 15:00 Monday to Friday and Russels Day Centre (RDC) which is open between 09:30 and 15:00 Tuesday to Friday. The day centres provide a comfortable meeting place for older people in the community, where they can take pleasure in the company of others, enjoy good food, refreshments, entertainment and the facilities that the centres have to offer, including hair salon, bathing (available only at (RDC) and library facilities and small second hand shops. Structured activity programmes are delivered by Activity Co-ordinators at both centres.
The GVS and its volunteers also runs Meals on Wheels service, using its fleet of 4 wholly owned MOW cars. The service operates six days a week throughout the year and on Bank Holidays and is available to housebound people who need it, not just older people.
