The States of Guernsey are seeking to appoint a Drainage Operative to join the team at States Works.
The Drainage Section of States Works undertakes cleansing of the sewer and surface water systems across the island, and also carries out gully and drain cleaning work for commercial and private clients. The section operates modern cleansing machinery and is based at the States Works complex at La Hure Mare. As part of the Engineering Services team, Drainage Operatives may be required to operate multiple vehicles and specialist plant. This may include across other areas of the Division.
Due to the diversity of the work the post holder will be required to demonstrate a flexible approach towards to work with the willingness to support a number of trades. This may include working outside of their primary job role during times of emergency or where the need has been identified by Management.

- Occupational Health Clearance
- Satisfactory, Basic Police Check, which can be obtained, at the candidates own expense, from the Guernsey Vetting Bureau, New Jetty, White Rock, St Peter Port, after an offer of appointment has been made. Convictions likely to be considered relevant to this post include crimes involving, but not limited to, theft, violence, dishonesty, fraud, vulnerable individuals and children

Should the successful applicant not meet the requirements sufficiently he/she may be appointed at a lower grade than stated. The successful applicant would then have the opportunity to progress to the grade advertised once the necessary skills and knowledge have been developed and they have demonstrated the ability to undertake the duties at the higher level.
