Grade: PSE Grade C - £509.55 - £526.79 per week (£13.409 - £13.862 per hour)

The States of Guernsey are seeking to appoint a school Caretaker.

The post is full-time, 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Working times are by arrangement with the line manager and are subject to periodic review depending on operational requirements. Additional hours may need to be worked, which may be compensated either as time in lieu or paid overtime, to be agreed in advance. As the post holder will be a key holder for one or more sites, call-out attendance is required and will be compensated as detailed in the relevant policy.

The successful postholder will assist the Site Supervisor in ensuring the site is secure (including un/locking, internal/external checks, setting alarms etc.), safe and clean and to interact with parents, children, members of staff, suppliers and members of the public to maintain these conditions.

Appointment to this role will be subject to the following pre-employment checks which will be completed following an offer of employment:

  • Satisfactory references which must include one from the candidate's current line manager
  • Occupational Health Clearance
  • Satisfactory, Enhanced, Disclosure and Barring Service Check with Barred Listing Check. Convictions likely to be considered relevant to this post include crimes involving, but not limited to, theft, violence, dishonesty, fraud, vulnerable individuals and children
  • Confirmation of required qualifications / registrations
  • Possession of a valid Employment Permit

Should the successful applicant not meet the requirements sufficiently he/she may be appointed at a lower grade than stated. The successful applicant would then have the opportunity to progress to the grade advertised once the necessary skills and knowledge have been developed and they have demonstrated the ability to undertake the duties at the higher level.

The post holder will therefore be required to undergo an Enhanced and Barred List DBS check and is recommended to be registered with its Status Update Service.
