Assistant Portfolio Manager

What is the team like?
This is a superb opportunity for a developing professional to advance their career in Discretionary Portfolio Management. You will have some experience within Investment Management / Financial Services, ideally from an analytical role utilising advanced Excel skills. We will support you to become a CFA Charterholder or achieve a level 7 Chartered qualification as part of your development into this role.
Ideally you will be CF30 approved or will achieve this quickly as the successful candidate. We also require a high proficiency in VBA coding and Excel.
The role sits within a small team of Discretionary Fund Managers (DFMs) to perform portfolio management duties for predominantly discretionary private client assets. The DFM team sits within a wider Investment Management team.
What are the key responsibilities?
The purpose of the role is to monitor and manage clients' portfolios on a day-to-day basis to ensure that they remain in line with the investment strategies and client's financial objectives. Key responsibilities once fully trained and qualified will include:
- Manage and review client portfolios, with direct responsibility for decisions which reflect the needs and risk profile of the individual client, in accordance with the firm's stated research and suitability processes.
- Implementation of trades across the client base.
- Assist in the construction and maintenance of investment models as part of the team.
- Active generation of investment ideas for inclusion in client portfolios.
- Contribute, and occasionally chair regular investment meetings to discuss and outline the investment strategy.
- Attend fund manager/company meetings and effectively communicate any findings to the wider team.
- Undertake cash raises, cash investment and mandate changes across the client base.
- Monitor and enter elections for corporate actions.
- Place FX trades and cover debits in portfolios.
- Willingness to take industry qualifications
What core skills and knowledge are we looking for?
- Advanced Excel skills, with knowledge of VBA/Visual Basic.
- Advanced IT skills.
- Some relevant experience within Investment Management, though this does not have to be from a fund management role.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
- Strong explanatory and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of the UK private client tax environment to support portfolio management duties.
- Knowledge of compliance requirements, including but not limited to: Data Protection, AML, Market Abuse, Fraud Awareness, Advising & Selling, Conduct Risk, Client Assets, Bribery & Corruption, Financial Crime, Gifts Policy.
Qualifications?
This role will require passing the level 7 CISI Chartered Wealth Manager qualification or CFA. Not required at the start and Investec will provide study support.
