Do you have relevant UK law firm experience? Are you commercially minded with a can do attitude?

You will be part of the Investec Bank plc Corporate and Special Projects Legal Team.  You will assist with both general lending work as well as restructuring/recoveries. The role will assist various business units across Investec Bank plc and Investec India with providing finance to HNW individuals, entrepreneur backed corporates and large corporate borrowers on a bilateral or syndicated basis.

**What will I be doing? **

Duties would include assisting with:

• Transaction structuring and assisting with legal aspects in the preparation of credit papers;
• Understanding and balancing the commercial drivers and risk appetite of the business against laws and regulations;
• Providing expert and timely advice in relation to law and regulation;
• Managing transactions and coordinating the provision and delivery of external legal advice to ensure the timely negotiation, execution of transactions to include ensuring that external advisers are appropriately appointed and briefed throughout the transaction;
• Reviewing and negotiating all finance agreements (including ancillary documentation) from inception of the transaction to its completion. This would include:

a. NDAs

b. Term sheets  c. Facility (LMA and in-house templates), security, intercreditor and other related documentation;

d. Debt and advisory mandate letters;
• Assisting with the drafting and maintenance of standard house style documentation for the team and external counsel in conjunction with the other members of the IBP legal team;  • Actively liaising with the Bank's credit function and analysis forums and credit monitoring and reporting teams to ensure that all transactions are executed within the relevant credit conditions;  • Assisting with all business as usual matters (extensions, amendments, waivers, reliance letters, deeds of release); and
• You will be expected to gain a good understanding of the business by working closely with your colleagues in IBP Legal, and the business in order to provide proactive legal support.

**What are we looking for in the successful candidate? **

Technical knowledge
• Relevant UK law firm experience;
• Experience relating to general lending, restructuring, in particular experience of syndicated/club lending and close familiarity with relevant LMA documentation; and
• Experience of working with legal research tools.

Skills and how they are applied
• Ability to work autonomously and without the need for constant supervision;
• Commercially minded - understand and take into account wider business considerations in order to see ‘the big picture';  • Corporate transactional experience a bonus;
• Ability to give practical, clear and concise commercial advice;
• Good communication skills;
• Sound drafting and negotiation experience;
• Ability to get to grips with complex factual scenarios and legal issues quickly;
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines;
• Good organisational skills and good attention to detail;
• Keen to learn and broaden skills and experience;
• Team player

Note: Role can be based either in London or Cape Town, subject to candidate having relevant UK law firm experience. Please note that salary will be locally benchmarked
