Supervisor:  37.5 Hours (includes working Saturdays)

Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, the Supervisor's role is to support their team in ensuring the smooth running of the department and delivering excellent customer service.

Core Duties

To ensure the smooth running of relevant department(s), and maintaining company standards by:

  • Overseeing all professional activities of their team of Sales Assistants (and cashiers where relevant).  This will involve training and advising staff, scheduling shifts and holidays, supporting and encouraging staff, and ensuring that codes of conduct are adhered to.
  • Ensuring that the sales floor is well merchandised, stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Ensuring high levels of housekeeping both on the shop floor and relevant storage areas.
  • Ensuring that goods received are unpacked in a timely manner, accurately checked, counted, and priced marked, then either appropriately put into storage or merchandised.
  • Ensuring that stock checks and annual stock takes are carried out efficiently and accurately.
  • Working closely with their line Manager to ensure that their team adhere to disciplinary standards, and taking appropriate action(s) when they do not.
  • (Where relevant) ensuring that till operators accurately handle cash and credit/debit transactions, and that the check-outs run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Any other duties that may from time to time be required.

Customer Service

To ensure that excellent customer service is demonstrated at all times by:

  • Ensuring that the team have a good product knowledge base so that they can assist customers, and to ensure that complaints are dealt with professionally and appropriately.
  • Ensuring that the team are well presented and well groomed, and that they adhere to appropriate company dress code (including the wearing of name badges).

General

Supervisors are expected to:

  • Work closely with their line manager to ensure the smooth running of their department.
  • Adhere to the current Aladdin's Cave standards of personal grooming and presentation (i.e. clean and tidy with uniform in neat and clean order)
  • Ensure all Health & Safety procedures are effectively carried out (e.g. ensuring that fire equipment, exits and escape routes are free of obstruction) and reporting any concerns or hazards to the Supervisor (or Head of Department) without delay.
  • Being vigilant at all times and to help minimize stock loss through damage or theft.
  • Work as part of a team with the other members of Aladdin's Cave staff, be aware of what is happening in the rest of the store and assist the public wherever possible.
  • Contribute to the identification of Departmental objectives for the short, medium, and long-term.

Whilst this is a supervisory position it is also a very hands-on role.  The Supervisor is expected to lead by example in all activities appropriately expected of their team (e.g. unpacking of goods, merchandising, cleaning etc).

Supervisor Skills

Successful store supervisors are highly organized people who are comfortable dealing with customers and motivating staff members.  They have amicable personalities, and are easy to talk to.  In addition to these general personality traits, we are looking for supervisors with the following skills:

  • Customer Service Skills: Supervisors should be comfortable dealing with face-to-face interactions with both happy and dissatisfied customers in a calm, pleasant, and professional manner.
  • Attention to Detail: It is important that in order for the company to maintain high standards of performance our Supervisors pay close attention to detail in terms of accuracy, merchandising, personal presentation, cleanliness, price-marking, stock-checking etc.
  • Communication Skills: in order to adequately communicate with both employers and customers, Supervisors must have strong communication skills.  It is also expected that Supervisors will work closely with other members of the management team.
  • Basic IT skills:  Some computer usage will be expected and so a basic working knowledge of Windows is required.  Relevant training will be provided.
  • A working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.

Previous retail experience is desired.

The appointment will be subject to satisfactory completion of a 3 month probation period.
