About us

La Grande Mare is presently undergoing a comprehensive redevelopment project that includes the construction of a new 18-hole golf course in collaboration with European Golf Design and MJ Abbots. Additionally, the project encompasses a revamped greenkeeping compound, a state[1]of-the-art driving range and Golf Performance Centre, a Health Club, and enhanced accommodation. Upon completion, La Grande Mare will emerge as a premier golfing destination, offering a world-class golf course and exceptional facilities.

Job description

In this role you will have the exceptional opportunity to work on a newly constructed golf course designed to the highest standards. Utilising cutting-edge technology, including the advanced Toro irrigation system, new fleet of machinery, and modern welfare facilities you will play a key role as

a member of the greenkeeping team.

Responsibilities will include:

• Maintaining existing and new areas of the course

• Operate machinery, ensuring safe and effective use

• Assist with irrigation

• Learn to apply fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides

• Collaborate with the Course Manager and Head Greenkeeper

Skills

• Basic groundskeeping knowledge: Mowing, watering, raking bunkers, and general turf case

• Use of equipment: Ability to safely operate machinery such as mowers, strimmers, blowers, and utility vehicles

• Physical fitness: The job is physically demanding, involving early starts and working in all weather conditions.

• Attention to detail: Ensuring the course is presented to a high standard, with neat bunkers, well-cut greens, and tidy fairways.

• Teamwork: Working closely with other greenkeepers and course staff. Following instructions from senior or qualified greenkeepers.

• Time management: Completing tasks efficiently to ensure the course is ready for play each day.

• Golf knowledge: Plays/played golf and understands areas of the course

• Mechanical background: Some knowledge of maintaining machinery or proven mechanical background

Desirable Attributes

• Willingness to learn: On-the-job training is common, and a proactive attitude helps

• Reliability and Punctuality: Essential for early morning starts and consistent course upkeep

• Environmental Awareness: Understanding the impact of chemicals, water usage, and wildlife on the course

Bonus skills (Not required but helpful)

• Basic knowledge of turf diseases and pest control

• Interest in progressing to a qualified role (e.g., through NVQs or other certifications)

• Experience in landscaping, gardening or farming
