About Hiscox Crisis Management: Our London Market Crisis Management division is expanding with aspiration to write $300m in premiums in the future. This is your opportunity to become part of the division primarily focussing on Art & Private Client underwriting based in Guernsey. Our Guernsey team cover fine art, jewellery, classic cars, jewellers block and HNW household as well as a broad range of collectibles including furniture, coins, musical instruments, gold, bank notes and stamps. The role We are looking for an associate underwriter to join our underwriting team. This role will report directly into an Underwriter. You will be expected to underwrite Art & Private Client insurance in order to meet agreed service standards and key performance objectives. In consultation with the Underwriter, you will be expected to drive and deliver underwriting success. What you’ll be doing • Deliver underwriting performance in line with the budget. • Develop relationships and maintain existing relationships with all of our distribution channels • Underwrite, price and negotiate accounts consistent with the quality of the risk and according to the company’s strategy and guidelines; mainly focused on renewal (existing) business but you may also handle new business from established distribution channels • Drive ongoing and continuous improvement within the Underwriting department. • Manage and analyse a portfolio of business and make recommendations to leaders on how to improve profitability and ensure production targets are met • Achieve production targets and underwrite business profitably in a volume environment • Participate in client and broker calls/ meetings to further develop knowledge of the class. • Build a knowledge of all Crisis Management lines and support underwriting systems • Help to produce regular and ad-hoc management information reports, (using various reporting tools and techniques), analysing and presenting data to assist strategic underwriting decisions. • Maintain excellent service standards • Work on other projects, as assigned Our must haves • Excellent communication skills with confidence to build relationships at all levels, and ask questions to ensure requirements and rationale are understood. • Enthusiastic, hardworking and driven individual with a focus on providing the best possible service. • Able to demonstrate evidence of using analytical skills to support decision making. • Can demonstrate ability to prioritise and organise workload in order to meet tight deadlines. • Able to learn and take on new tasks quickly and use own initiative to explore possibilities before raising queries. • Proactive, showing initiative when completing tasks by pre-empting issues and proposing solutions for them. • Flexible approach to work with a strong desire to learn and undertake additional responsibilities.
