IT, Tele-communications Our client is seeking a skilled Senior Operations Engineer to join their dynamic Cloud Services team in either Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man. This is a full-time position with a contract length as needed, working 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate will take the lead in providing operational support for the hardware and software technologies that host cloud services. In this role, the individual will be responsible for ensuring an exceptional customer experience by managing communications, resolving incidents, handling customer requests, and implementing service improvements. Additionally, the Senior Operations Engineer will maintain compliance with vendor solution releases and address identified security threats. Lead the administration, management, and third-level support of VMware vCloud, vCenter, vSphere, storage, and associated technologies. Manage technologies including Linux, Windows, SQL, and other supporting infrastructures. Oversee VMware NSX and physical networking operations. Ensure the security of systems through effective management of firewalls and other security devices. Conduct root cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues. Provide professional consultancy surrounding infrastructure technologies, particularly in cloud service onboarding. Create and manage third-party support cases with appropriate criticalities. Contribute proactively to continuous service improvements with innovative ideas and suggestions. Mentor and guide team members in their areas of expertise. Draft documentation for systems, services, and technologies, including procedures. Effectively prioritise and manage tasks while balancing stakeholder expectations and project commitments. Maintain and strengthen relationships with staff and partners to enhance customer value. Liaise with customers and prospects to design virtual infrastructures, networks, and backup/DR strategies.
Job Requirements:
Strong knowledge and experience in IT infrastructure, including hardware, operating systems, storage, virtualisation, virtual desktops, and security systems. Proficiency in backup and replication technologies, along with experience in Microsoft AD and DNS. Multiple associate-level qualifications such as CCNA, VCA, or equivalent experience; working towards professional-level qualifications such as VCP or CCNP is advantageous. Proven record of providing professional customer service and effective communication. Demonstrated initiative and independent problem-solving skills. High accuracy levels with excellent time management and organisational abilities. Experience in customer relationship management and handling difficult situations successfully. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an administrative or engineering role, preferably within a service provider environment. Familiarity with ITIL, ISO27001, and PCI-DSS standards is preferred.
