The Senior Metering Engineer oversees all technical aspects of electrical energy metering systems for customers and businesses across Guernsey. Their responsibilities include managing the installation, maintenance, and operation of both standard and advanced metering equipment, ensuring reliability and operational excellence.

This role also involves safeguarding the accuracy of metering records, leading compliance with Health & Safety and data protection standards and investigating anomalies or potential fraud. By providing technical oversight, the engineer ensures that metering operations uphold the highest standards of safety and customer service.

  • Provide technical oversight of all metering operations, ensuring the effective implementation and management of systems for energy metering across the organisation.
  • Develop, refine, and monitor processes for the installation, maintenance, and operation of metering equipment, including advanced and specialised systems, to guarantee operational excellence and reliability.
  • Establish robust procedures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of metering records, supporting the organisation’s revenue assurance and customer trust.
  • Lead the development and implementation of compliance frameworks, ensuring all activities adhere to local legislation, Health & Safety standards, Equal Opportunities, and Data Protection requirements.
  • Acts as the Asset Owner for the metering systems, ensuring responsibility for all associated assets and their lifecycle management.
  • Direct the investigation and reporting of metering anomalies and potential fraudulent activity, establishing clear protocols for incident management and resolution.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and technical support to metering staff and contracting electricians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Oversee stakeholder engagement by liaising with internal teams, external contractors, and customers, ensuring collaborative relationships and effective communication.
  • Act as the owner of the metering data set, overseeing data analysis, investigation, reporting, configuration management, and application support, whilst working closely with the billing team to ensure data accuracy and facilitate effective revenue management.
  • Champion the organisation’s core values and behaviours, promoting a safe and ethical working environment in all metering operations.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety rules and protocols, particularly when overseeing work on live equipment, by setting clear expectations and monitoring adherence.

· Minimum HNC/HND (or equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical discipline.
· Must hold IOSH – Working Safely or similar
· Specialist training in metering installation (Usually provided by manufacturers)
· A sound knowledge of metering theory and principles of installation and a desire to keep up with changing technology.
· Solid understanding of the Guernsey Electricity Safety Rules and procedures and is a Competent Person for metering works, Substation entry and Pillar access.
· Must hold a valid driving licence

· A proactive approach to customer service

· Demonstrates a current knowledge of the functional structure of Guernsey Electricity and its Vision, Purpose, Values and Objectives.
