To provide engineering assistance to the Generation section on a wide range of operational functions and the enabling and delivery of engineering projects and tasks associated with the operation of the Power Station, including the operation and support of engineering and control systems and providing cover for operational staff. 1. To lead, supervise and review the work of a team of skilled and semi-skilled labour to ensure timely and efficient response to planned maintenance, unplanned and emergency repair work and general site tidiness.
Provide engineering support and guidance to the mechanical technician teams.
Manage performance and disciplinary matters associated with the team, including, but not limited to, performance management, absence/attendance management and development objectives to create a high performing team.
Undertake a wide variety of operational engineering tasks associated with Generation operations. This will including operational support for scheduled and un-scheduled maintenance programmes; routine works and capital projects.
Provision of design and engineering support to Asset Management, Maintenance Teams, Project Management, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) Systems and CIEG with such activities that may include installation, contractor management and commissioning of plant and equipment.
Work with Asset and Project Management on design and development projects as may be required to maintain or develop the operational effectiveness of generation plant, including research and design, tendering, and delivery of such projects.
Facilitate the operational delivery of such plant development projects as may be required to maintain or develop the operational effectiveness of generation plant.
Provide cover for other operational staff, including Shift Engineers, Control Room Operators and the Lead Engineer Generation (Mechanical and Operations) to ensure continuous availability of their duties during times of absence through illness or training and to facilitate succession training. The post holder will be required to provide flexible shift cover support for the Generation Engineer and Control Room Operator.
Undertake specific engineering support roles as part of project teams on capital projects, to ensure the timely completion of those projects.
Assist the Lead Engineer Generation (Mechanical and Operations) with the management of Health and Safety issues within the team, and the implementation of the company’s Health and Safety policies and procedures including the review of policies and procedures relevant to the section.
Provide assistance or leadership on regulatory commitments such as COMAH, PSSR and Legionella.
Undertake investigations as required and work with RQHSE as required with any findings.
Be aware of and comply with local legislation, specifically related to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Data Protection.

· Requires a theoretical engineering knowledge consistent with HNC in an engineering discipline or equivalent, combined with operational experience in a power generation or equivalent industry.
· Thorough and specialised knowledge of generation plant operations and control
· Required to become an Authorised Person for Power Station under E&M Safety Rules
· Requires detailed knowledge of control systems operated by Guernsey Electricity, together with their underlying configuration software and techniques.
· Requires high level of competency and experience with computer technology, including Microsoft applications.
· Requires an understanding of Guernsey Electricity’s business and management systems, purchasing, financial control and project management processes
· Demonstrates a current knowledge of the functional structure of Guernsey Electricity, its mission, objectives, strategies, and critical success factors
· Ability to communicate and manage people effectively.
