About the store
The Bedminster store is a large store in which the outgoing partner has an allocated parking space near the store. There is a high footfall in this area and the store sees a variety of age groups and demographics resulting in it having a high NHS mix.
The store opened more than 25 years ago and has a large database of patients. They also have a substantial direct debit base of greater than 1600 direct debits. The partnership welcomed a new optom partner to the business in November 2019. She had been an employed optometrist in the store for 4 years prior to becoming a partner.
The store has six fully equipped testing rooms. Four rooms were regularly in use until the start of the COVID pandemic. Having six rooms provides the store the opportunity to develop its own optometrist team through pre-reg development. The store benefited from a full refit in 2015, leaving the store looking very modern and well presented. There is significant scope to build capacity and volume without incurring additional expense, with the Bedminster business spanning 2 units in the same arcade of shop units. One unit is for testing and dispensing, whilst the second unit is for audiology, collections, office, lab, admin and staff room. This unit has two dedicated hearing rooms, with one in regular use for profitable wax removal clinics. Bedminster Hearcare has six spoke stores – Keynsham, Wells, Clifton, Bristol City Centre, Knowle and Winterstoke Road.
The outgoing Partner and the Retail Partner are also Partners in the Winterstoke Road store which opened in Sept 2018. This is a small store based in Sainsburys Winterstoke Road approximately 1 mile from Bedminster. It has been growing a healthy direct debit base since opening and has a relatively high ATV due to the demographic in this area. The store has had challenges over the past 18months and there is significant opportunity to add value to the store. It has 2 fully equipped testing rooms and an audiology room which has the capacity to be converted to a dual function room if/when needed.
Both stores have glaucoma/OHT monitoring schemes and post op cataract EOS schemes in place. These work effectively to bring high value new patients to the practices. There are circa 30 team members in Bedminster, 6 team members in Winterstoke Road and 5 team members in Bedminster audiology.
Store location
The store is located less than a mile from Bristol city centre. It is based in the Bristol/Gloucester region whose RRM is Leanne Rogers. The Bedminster store is less than 15 minutes walk from Bristol Templemeads train station and Bristol bus station. It is located 200m from a large Asda shopping centre, beside the local post office.
