The States of Guernsey is looking for a Customs and Excise Officer. Customs and Excise is a part of the Guernsey Border Agency (GBA) which forms part of Bailiwick of Guernsey Law Enforcement along with the Guernsey Police. The GBA is a public body which sits under the political control of the The Office of the Committee for Home Affairs acting under the Head of Law Enforcement.
Customs and Excise has the primary responsibility for the collection and protection of Customs and Excise duties in relation to the importation and production of dutiable goods, the protection of society from the importation and exportation of prohibited or restricted goods in freight and for providing expert advice and accurate information to the public and businesses on Customs related matters.
Customs and Excise administers import and export licencing regimes and is responsible for ensuring compliance with all import/export control measures in place, including Bailiwick obligations under EU Community Transit procedures. Customs & Excise apply European Union regulations in relation to local Customs and Excise matters. Appropriate provision is made to provide advice on all customs and excise matters by way of a public and trade enquiry desk at the White Rock office.
Support is also provided to Law Enforcement Border activities at the ports of arrival, postal sorting offices and freight clearance depots. Assistance is also provided to the on-entry immigration control of passengers arriving in the Bailiwick from outside the Common Travel Area.

In order to satisfy residency criteria you need to have been resident in the UK or Guernsey for a period of 3 years. The calculation of the period of time refers to the period immediately before an application is made and not any other period or accumulation of time spent in the UK or Guernsey.** **
The form must be completed and returned, in person, with relevant verified photo ID, to the Recruitment Team, Sir Charles Frossard House, La Charroterie, St Peter Port, GY1 1FH, before the closing date.
**Convictions likely to be considered relevant to this post include crimes involving Theft, Dishonesty and Fraud. **

Should the successful applicant not meet the requirements sufficiently he/she may be appointed at a lower grade than stated. The successful applicant would then have the opportunity to progress to the grade advertised once the necessary skills and knowledge have been developed and they have demonstrated the ability to undertake the duties at the higher level.
