The Short Break Service for Children and Young People with learning disabilities offers a flexible approach to deliver a service where it is needed. This could be at The Croft, in the community as outreach or in the family home of Children & Young People as well as residential short breaks. The staff team are expected to participate in all aspects of the service.

The staff in the Short Break Service work with a wide range of service users from young Children through to adulthood, and cover a broad spectrum of needs associated with learning disability such as complex health, physical and sensory needs and behaviours that can be challenging.

The support staff provide support with various activities of daily living, specific to the individual. Staff are also expected to administer medication as a part of their role.

This challenging and rewarding post involves working with Children and families in a variety of settings, supporting vulnerable Young People and ensuring their general wellbeing needs are identified, met and maintained.

Previous experience of working with Children and Young People with learning disabilities is desirable but not essential.

Should the successful applicant not meet the requirements sufficiently he/she may be appointed at a lower grade than stated. The successful applicant would then have the opportunity to progress to the grade advertised once the necessary skills and knowledge have been developed and the postholder has demonstrated the ability to undertake the duties at the higher level.
