Role Purpose The Payments Business Analyst is responsible for detailed business analysis, requirements definition, and delivery readiness across initiatives within the One Payments Platform (OPP). Working closely with Product and Engineering colleagues and other stakeholders in UK and India, the role translates business, regulatory, scheme, and operational requirements into clear, structured, and testable artefacts that support effective delivery of payment capabilities and enhancements. The role is execution-focused and accountable for requirements clarity, traceability, and functional correctness. Key Responsibilities 1. Requirements Elicitation & Analysis Elicit, analyze, document, validate, and verify business and functional requirements. Work with the Payments Product Managers and leverage AI assistance to translate high-level feature intent into detailed epics, features, and user stories. Facilitate workshops with business, operations, compliance, and technology stakeholders to clarify requirements and agree functional outcomes. Ensure requirements are clearly structured, testable, and aligned to business objectives. 2. Payments Scheme & Domain Application Apply working knowledge of UK and European payment schemes (e.g. Faster Payments, CHAPS, SEPA, SWIFT) to requirements definition. Interpret scheme rules, message standards (including ISO 20022 where applicable), settlement considerations, and exception handling flows in a functional context. Support regulatory and scheme-driven change by translating obligations into clear and implementable requirements. Ensure functional artefacts accurately reflect payment lifecycle behavior from initiation through to settlement and reporting. 3. Backlog Readiness & Delivery Support Prepare and maintain backlog items in a “ready for delivery” state. Define clear acceptance criteria and support delivery teams with clarification throughout the development lifecycle. Participate in refinement sessions and provide ongoing requirement clarification during sprints. Support implementation, testing, and validation to ensure delivered solutions meet agreed requirements. 4. Process & Operational Alignment Define and document business processes and workflows impacted by payment changes. Identify upstream and downstream impacts across systems and operational teams. Ensure operational considerations (e.g. reconciliation, exception handling, reporting) are reflected in functional requirements. Support operational teams in understanding functional changes and system behavior 5. Traceability, Governance & Change Control Maintain end-to-end traceability from business requirement through to delivered functionality. Assess and document the impact of requirement changes, ensuring appropriate review and approval. Produce and maintain documentation in line with governance, audit, and regulatory expectations. 6. Stakeholder Collaboration & Vendor Interaction Engage effectively with UK and Mumbai stakeholders across product, engineering, operations, and risk functions. Where applicable, support engagement with third-party vendors to clarify functional requirements and validate expected outcomes. Share domain knowledge and lessons learned within the OPP team. Key Skills & Competencies 1, Payments Domain Knowledge Strong understanding of payment flows across domestic and cross-border payments. Working knowledge of relevant UK / European scheme frameworks and industry standards. Awareness of regulatory and compliance considerations relevant to payments. 2. Analysis & Delivery Skills Proven ability to produce high-quality requirements artefacts including process flows, functional specifications, and user stories. Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery environments. Ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives and competing priorities. 3. Stakeholder & Communication Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills. Confident facilitating workshops and engaging stakeholders at different levels. Structured and detail-oriented, with the ability to challenge ambiguities constructively. Qualifications & Experience 6+ years' experience as a Business Analyst within payments, banking, or financial services. Demonstrated experience delivering change within a payment platform or similar regulated environment. Exposure to scheme-driven or regulatory change initiatives. Relevant business analysis certification (e.g. CBAP, BCS, PMI-PBA) desirable but not essential. Performance Measures Quality, completeness, and clarity of requirements documentation. Reduction in delivery rework attributable to unclear or incomplete requirements. Timeliness of backlog readiness and support to delivery teams.
