Monday
Weather
Bright or sunny spells and a few passing showers. SW’ly winds will be rather fresh at first but they will moderate through the day, allowing temperatures to peak at a very comfortable 13C. Overnight, the wind will back to a strong S’ly, cloud will thicken and we will probably wake up to rain on Tuesday.
Surf and Tide
Hopefully some great west-coast waves in the 3-5 foot range. Probably best in the mid-afternoon. High water, about 9.3m at 5:10am and 9.4m at 5:30pm. Low water, about 1.6m at 11:30am.
Tuesday
Weather
Rain will be persistent until soon after the morning rush-hour. The very mild air (14C) will make it a bit misty too, but hopefully the strong S’ly wind will save the airport from any disruptive fog. By lunchtime, we should return to sunshine and showers, much like on Monday. Later in the night, we probably won’t see a change in weather, but batten down the hatches because the wind will certainly get quite spicy. Gradually veering to a force 7 WSW’ly, possibly touching gale force 8 in places by Wednesday morning.
Surf and Tide
A really special day for the west coast and possibly good for the north too. A clean 6-8 feet on the west and possibly 2-3 feet on the north. High water, about 9.7m at 6am and 6:20pm. Low water, about 1.4m at 12:20pm.
Wednesday
Weather
A simple combo of sunshine and showers, but more importantly it’s going to be a very windy day; strong force 7 WSW’ly for the most part, possibly gale force in exposed areas in the morning. The morning high tide in particular, looks set to be a bad one on the west coast. If you have vulnerable property there, then now would be a good time to start preparing for it.
Surf and Tide
Some very large waves mid-Channel, thank to ex tropical storm Sebastian. The surf will be a lot messier than on Tuesday unfortunately, but we could still luck in to some decent waves at Pembroke all being well. High water, about 9.9m at 6:40am and 9.7m at 7pm. Low water, about 1.3m at 1pm.
Thursday and Friday
Winds will veer W’ly on Thursday, then NW on Friday, bringing cooler air than in the first half of the week. Not desperately cold but noticeably different. The sheltered places to feel more comfortable will be found on the east coast on both days, and also on the south coast on Friday. The skies should be partly cloudy / partly clear throughout, but not without a few passing showers.
The Weekend
The weather story has been so changeable in recent weeks and I'm afraid the forecast for next weekend is no different. Regularly checking the best computer models we have, it seems that the story just keeps flip-flopping First it appears that we can expect settled weather and high-pressure next weekend, then the models are updated and it appears that we can expect low pressure, wind and rain. At this stage, I'm expecting the latter but hoping for the former. It probably won't be until mid-week before I can deal with this part of the forecast with any amount of confidence.
The next forecast update should be on Tuesday evening.
