Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Saturday 07/12/219

Saturday

Weather

Be sure to take advantage of this day, given the strong winds and heavy showers that are going to develop through Sunday. Winds will be light to moderate W’ly in the morning, with mostly cloudy skies and perhaps the odd light shower. In the afternoon, winds will back to a SW’ly direction and we should see a bit more sunshine. Overnight is when the drama kicks in, with winds getting close to gale force and some rather heavy rain between midnight and dawn.

Surf and Tide

4 feet of relatively clean west-coast waves, especially in the late afternoon. Tides; 3.8m low at 9am, then 7.3m high at 3pm.

Sunday

Weather

A very windy day, especially as we get towards the evening and night, when squally showers could bring gusts of around 60mph. Take advantage of the morning, because that’s when the skies should be the sunniest and the winds should be the most manageable.

Surf and Tide

Very messy surf, but maybe some manageable fun for windsurfers in the early afternoon, before things get too out of control. Tides; 3.4m low at 9:50am, then 7.8m high at 3:50pm.

Monday

Weather

Huge rough seas and howling NW’ly winds to kick off the day. The winds at least should ease as the day progresses, but it’s only going to be a very gradual process. On the plus side, it should at least be mostly dry and sunny, so if you get into a sheltered nook, such as Fermain or Moulin Huet, then it could actually be relatively pleasant.

Surf and Tide

Overnight, the waves will have picked up to well over 20 feet in the Channel, so with winds from the northwest all day, and gradually becoming lighter, the south coast could really offer some rare treats (photos please). Tides; 2.9m low at 10:40am, then 8.1m high at 4:40pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday

More crazy strong winds and gales from late Tuesday morning onwards, with directions alternating between S’ly and W’ly as squally fronts come and go. Tuesday should be pretty mild but Wednesday much cooler. Both days should be peppered with heavy (near horizontal) showers, but Wednesday’s will probably heaviest, with quite a lot of hail mixed in.

Thursday Onwards

It’s not possible to pin down the details at this stage, but suffice to say that the second half of the week is not looking desperately different from the first. Early indications are that it should be drier and a bit milder from Friday onwards, but without much respite in the wind. The wind direction will be W’ly for the most part and the tides will be on the large side, not panic stations though, with the highs generally around 9.1 to 9.2m.

The next forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening.
