Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 11/12/2019

Wednesday

Weather

With the wind swinging round to a W’ly in the middle of Tuesday night, Wednesday will get off to a chilly start under partly clear skies. A few showers might come by from time to time, but it won't be until lunchtime that these showers become frequent and heavy. At their heaviest, we might even get hammered by a bit of hail. 8-9C is as high as the temperature is likely to get, but the force 5-6 wind is going to make it feel much colder than that.

Surf and Tide

Increasingly messy surf in the 4-6 foot range; maybe something half decent in the morning but generally best left to the windsurfers after that. Tides; 2.2m low at midday, then 8.8m high at 6pm.

Thursday

Weather

Thursday’s rain won't be showery like Wednesday’s. This time it will be persistent under a full day of grey skies and very strong SSW’ly winds. Temperatures will climb to a marginally more comfortable 11-12C, but the rain isn't likely to scatter into showers until the evening, when the wind veers W’ly again.

Surf and Tide

Some beautifully clean waves of about 8 feet on the west coast and maybe 2-4 feet on the north, but the strength of the offshore wind will be really challenging to deal with. Tides; 9.1m high at 6:20am, then about 2m low at 12:40pm.

Friday

Weather

The showers should be fairly few and far between, but the bigger story is about the gale force WNW’ly winds, occasionally almost as strong as when storm Atiyah was in town. Batten down the hatches and don't be surprised to see more tree damage around the island.

Surf and Tide

The surf will be a hideous mess all day, but it might still be of interest to the hardiest of windsurfers. Take care when driving along the west coast for about 90mins either side of high tide. Those two highs being about 9.2m 7am and 7:20pm.

The Weekend

As the wind backs to a SW’ly direction, it's only going to simmer down a teeny bit, still blowing a strong force 6-7 for the most part. On the plus side, the showers should remain fairly few and far between and there should see plenty of sunshine in between them. Temperatures should be pretty steady at about 10C throughout the weekend, just nudging up to 11C in the sunshine and knocking down to 9C in the night.

Next Week

With such a changeable weather pattern at the moment, deep lows charging across the Atlantic with great frequency, it's really hard to forecast the details with any kind of confidence. However, the latest computer models seem to be suggesting a rather relaxed week next week. Perhaps a wet and windy blast around Wednesday but otherwise much more settled, with high pressure tending to dominate.

The next forecast update should be on Thursday evening.
