Friday
Weather
All our murky, misty and drizzly weather has come on a mild SSW’ly airflow. Today, however, the wind has switched to a NNW’ly, bringing cooler and importantly drier air. So we shall see quite a bit more sunshine, and providing you find a bit if a shelter from the breeze, then it probably won't feel at all bad. Any of the south coast beaches and cliff paths will off such conditions, and because you will be facing the sun down there, you might even find yourself without a jacket. Temperatures should peak at 8-9C in most parts, and 10C in those warmer spots.
Surf and Tide
The swell should be more than solid enough to wrap into the south-coast bays, offering some decent 4-foot waves at Petit Port this morning, and maybe some decent 3-footers at Petit Bot later. The sand banks are never as reliable as the west coast but I can be great on occasion. Send me some pics if you snap some good ones. If you prefer to stay out west, then leave it as late as possible, to allow the onshore wind to fall light. Low water 1.8m just after midday. Highs of 8.7m shortly before dawn and after dusk.
Saturday
Weather
The wind will be back in that milder and moister SSW’ly direction, but conditions shouldn't go downhill too badly. Just a bit more cloudy than Friday in general (particularly early and late). During the middle of the day however, that cloud will often be thin enough to let some hazy sunshine through, hopefully lifting us to a max of 11 or even 12C. Winds will be pretty strong though, so you will need shelter to really feel the warmth, the best of this being between Town and Fermain, or between Pleinmont and Vazon.
Surf and Tide
A smaller swell than on Friday, but this won't matter, because now the wind will be cross-offshore and clean along the west-coast. So we should still see a good crop of clean fun 4+foot waves High of 9m at 6:40am. Low of 1.4m at 1:10pm.
Sunday
Weather
With the bulk of the wet weather probably having passed on Saturday night, we should only be left with isolated showers on Sunday, and punctuated by further spells of hazy sunshine. However, with winds now veering WSW’ly, the west coast won't feel so nice on Saturday. This time the east coast should really be the place to go, with temperatures peaking at a very comfortable 12-13C.
Surf and Tide
The winds will make the west coast a little messier than on Saturday, but it should still be nice and clean around Richmond at first light, and with a bigger swell on the cards, there could even be some rideable waves up on the north coast. Low water 1.8m just after midday. High of 9.2m at 7:30am. Low of 1.2m 2pm.
Next Week
A rather stormy start to the week; mild SSW’ly winds will dominate Monday and Tuesday. These winds probably much be too strong for any mist or fog, but we are certainly expecting a few episodes of rain on those days. Wednesday certainly looks like the most likely sunny and settled day at the moment, but I'm sure I don't need to tell you that the forecast could very easily change between now and then. Thursday and Friday are very uncertain, except for the expectation of unseasonably mild air, possibly nice and sunny but possibly very misty and murky, all depending on the precise mix of ingredients.
The next forecast update will be on Sunday.
