Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 24/02/2020

Monday

Weather

A strong WSW’ly airflow will give similar mild and murky conditions to those we had over the weekend. The one real difference however, is that the precipitation won't just be a weak, misty, drizzly affair. in the afternoon particularly, we should see a more definite dose of heavier rain.

Surf and Tide

6-8 feet waves along the west coast, choppy in most places but nice and clean in the Richmond area. The north coast, probably still surfable although quite a lot smaller. Spring tides, nothing too dramatic but I shall focus on the highs… 9.2m at 7:10am and 9m at 7:30pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

Two very similar days, with the wind locked into a strong WNW’ly, bringing cold air over relatively warm sea. This is the recipe for sunshine, showers and rainbows aplenty; some of those showers being heavy with hail and perhaps some thunder. Max temps will be single figures on both days, probably 9°C on Tuesday and just 8°C on Wednesday. The nights will certainly be a few degrees cooler, but it will probably be too windy for any ground frost. On both days, the most sheltered areas for a good walk will be Town and Fermain, closely followed by Moulin Huet, Saints Bay and Petit Bot.

Surf and Tide

Very mess surf all along the west and north coasts on both days. Maybe some decent novelty waves down at Petit Bot though, especially on Wednesday (pictures of that would be very welcome please) The tidal highs on Tuesday will be 9.2m at 7:40am and 9m at 8pm. Then on Wednesday, they will be 9.1m at 8:20am and 8.8m at 8:30pm.

Thursday and Friday

Temperatures should return to double figures as the wind returns to a SW’ly direction. It's still going to be a strong wind though, and there will still be plenty of rain I'm afraid. The timing and duration of that rain is very uncertain at this stage, but with Forecast models predicting 10-20mm, we can certainly expect plenty of puddles and squidgy lawns.

The Weekend

I can say with confidence that the overall pattern is set to continue, mild SW’ly winds alternating with cooler WNW’ly winds. It's likely that one day will be mostly dry and the other mostly wet, but I shall have to wait until nearer the time to be any more precise than that. Looking for some light at the end of the tunnel, I can tell you that long-range models are predicting March to become much drier than it has been if late, so there is some hope that spring might actually feel like spring.

The next forecast update should be with you on Tuesday evening.
