Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 25 April 2019

Paul Mariess

THURSDAY

WEATHER The force 5 S’ly wind is whistling, especially near showers, which could bring gusts of up to 35mph this morning. However, the showers are very few and far between. Going into the afternoon, trends will reverse somewhat, with the showers becoming more widespread (and therefore more likely to hit us) but, at the same time, the background wind will relax to about force 3. The showers could be heavy enough to give a rumble of thunder, but there should also be some good sunshine in between them. Max temps today 12-13C (maybe just managing 14C in Town). Min temps tonight 8-9C.

SURF AND TIDES About 1-2 feet and clean during the morning, increasing to 3 feet by the evening. High water will be 7.7m at 11am. Low will be 3.3m at 5:2pm. The sunset session should be the cream of the crop.

FRIDAY

WEATHER Winds will shift between SW and W during the day and overnight, with the passing of rain or showers. However the greatest change will be in wind strength, as we start the day with just a gentle force 3 and finish the night with a near-gale force 7. As for the weather, the driest times (fewest showers) are likely to be early and late, with showers merging into persistent rain for a spell either side of lunchtime. Sunshine will be rather limited but we shall probably see some during those drier times. Max temps 12C (or maybe 13C in Town). Min temps overnight 8-9C again.

SURF AND TIDES Bigger but also messier I'm afraid; 6-8 feet and definitely worth a bash during the morning. As for the afternoon, that's definitely best left to the windsurfers and kitesurfers I think. High water will be 7m at 11:40am. Low will be 3.8m at 6pm.

SATURDAY

WEATHER A deeper Atlantic low than we have seen for quite some time. Although not as strong as most winter storms, with all the trees in leaf, there could at least be some branches down in places. Winds will be strong force 7 WNW’ly for most of the day, with frequent gusts of about 45mph. It should be mostly dry and fairly sunny though, with showers mostly clearing around dawn. Stick to the east coast to feel most comfortable. Temperatures will be a degree or two cooler than Friday’s.

SURF AND TIDES Really big and really messy. Still good for wind junkies though. High water will be just a tiny 6.6m at 12:50pm.

SUNDAY AND MONDAY By Sunday morning, the wind will have simmered down to a force 4 W’ly and that's probably how it will stay all day. Skies are looking fairly cloudy but dry. The brighter moments should yield top temps of 12C generally, but possibly 13C in Town. Carrying on to Monday, temperatures should pick up by at least a degree, although there will be very little change in the rather bland weather. Great news for surfers… wtih just a force 3 S’ly and very small tides, the 2-3 foot after school / work session should be really clean and fun.

NEXT TUESDAY ONWARDS Not as dreamy as the Easter weekend, but certainly an improvement on current conditions. Winds will be light almost every day, generally from the S or the W, which will mean that temperatures are just on the mild side of average. Furthermore, with the Atlantic lows keeping their distance, most days should be predominantly dry, with any rain or showers being very brief and light.

The next forecast update will be at the weekend.
