Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Friday 06/03/2020

Friday

Weather

Much like at the start of this week, Friday will be a story of long sunny spells and brief showers. Those showers most likely in the morning and the sunshine most prevalent in the afternoon. Bright as it may be, the temperature will only peak at 9°C and the moderate to fresh NW’ly will certainly add a bit if wind-chill.

Surf and Tide

Once again the south coast is going to be the only place that isn't choppy. The tide will be 7.5m high at 4:10pm, so the late morning and lunchtime will be the best time to check

Saturday

Weather

This had previously looked like the one and only dry and calm day of the week. However, it’s now set to have a fresh SW’ly wind, fairly thick cloud and occasional light rain or drizzle. Having said that, it will be mild, so if the sun does briefly break through then sheltered spots will feel very pleasant. Max temp 11-12°C.

Surf and Tide

Cleanish 4-5 feet waves on the west coast. Definitely best during the afternoon. Tides are getting larger; low water will be just after midday and the highs will be about 8.7m at dawn and dusk.

Sunday

Weather.

Mixed blessings on Sunday; more in the way of sunshine but also more in the way of showers. The SW’ly wind direction will remain unchanged but it will probably be a notch stronger and more gusty than on Saturday.

Surf and Tide

A big jump in wave height, getting up to about 8 feet on the west coast and maybe 3-4 feet on the north. High water will be about 9.2m at 6:30am and 7pm. Low water 1.2m at 1pm.

Next Week

With winds staying WSW’ly nearly all week, the air will always be a few degrees milder than the season norm. There will be plenty of dry time and no doubt some occasional sunshine (especially towards the end of the week). However, there will also be some spells of drizzly rain, and when the air is this mild it also carries a risk of hill-fog. The other feature to take note of is the tide, because these will be the largest spring tides of the month, and this is the month of the vernal equinox. Wednesday morning likely to be the largest at 9.9m based purely on the astronomical predictions. If we end up with low pressure, strong wind and large swell, then the actual tide could easily end up being higher than 10m

The next forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening.
