Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Saturday 21/03/2020

Saturday

Weather

Another cloudy one with a strong and bitter ENE’ly wind. A slim chance of a shower in the morning, when the cloud is thickest, but much lighter than on Friday. Then, in the afternoon, the cloud will be much thinner, hopefully allowing a few spells of hazy sunshine to slip through.

Surf and Tide

Apart from the offshore chop, the west-coast will be flatter than a pancake, but with the wind still pretty perky, the kite surfers and windsurfers should find something decent to play with. The tidal range is slowly getting large again due to the new moon. Low water will be 2.4m at 11:20am and high water 7.8m at 5:20pm.

Sunday

Similar hazy sunshine to Saturday afternoon, but this time all day. Other than that, the only slight difference will be a slight reduction in the wind, easing to moderate force 4 to fresh force 5.

Weather

Surf and Tide

Not quite as flat as on Saturday, but there’s unlikely to be enough of a wave to surf a longboard on (fingers crossed we might be pleasantly surprised). There will still be enough wind to play with kites though. This time low water will be bang on noon at a height of 1.9m. High water will be around dawn and dusk, each at a height of 8.2m.

Monday to Wednesday

These are all due to be dry and sunny. Perhaps the sunshine will be brightest on Monday but with cold air over the islands and the moderate to fresh ENE’ly wind persisting, this day is definitely going to feel the chilliest. Over the next two days, the wind will fall fairly light and back to a SE’ly direction, bringing in lots of high cloud. That’s going to make the sunshine very dappled and hazy but it’s going to feel really comfortable, with temperatures possibly reaching 14 degrees. In the surf, we should see a steady increase to super-clean 4-5 foot waves by late Tuesday. However, with tides getting up to about 9m on the highs, you will have to time your sessions carefully.

The Rest of Next Week

It’s not too certain right now, so the timing could easily change, but it looks as though Thursday will probably bring a band of rain, ushering in cooler air on a NNE’ly breeze. After that, it will most likely be dry and sunny, but with temperatures struggling to exceed 11C by day and possibly cold enough for ground-frost overnight.

The next forecast update will be on Sunday or Monday.
