Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 22/04/2020

Wednesday

Weather

Dry with hazy sunshine and, thanks to a reduction in wind, it will also be a degree or two warmer than the previous days. This time the breeze will just be a force 3 to 4 NE’ly and the max should be 14 or 15°C in sheltered parts of the south and the west.

Surf and Tides

Another day of great swell, made slightly choppy on the west coast by the side-shore wind. Meanwhile, the surf will be fabulously clean but rather tiny down on the south coast. High water will be about 8.8m at 7:10am and 7:30pm. Low water will be about 1.6m at 1:40pm.

Thursday

Weather

Dry and sunny again, with even lighter winds and therefore even higher temperatures. This time the wind is unlikely to be stronger than force 2-3 and it's going to be variable in direction, meaning that Town will probably be the warmest spot on the island, with a max temp that's might even be as high as 20°C.

Surf and Tide

The reduction in wind will really clean up the waves, which will only be 1-3 feet but they will be powerful. Expect lots of close-outs and some very long lulls between the sets. The reefs will handle the waves much better than the beaches. High water will be about 8.9m at 7:50am and 8pm. Low water will be about 1.4m at 2:10pm.

Friday

Weather

Just a couple of degrees less warm than on Thursday, due to cloudier skies and the slim risk of a shower. Apart from that, it’s going to be another day of very light and variable breezes, so all places are going to feel equally comfortable and, once again, Town should scoop the max temp.

Surf and Tide

A more consistent swell on this day, and still lovely and clean. High water will be about 8.9m at 8:20am and 8:30pm. Low water will be about 1.5m at 2:40pm.

The Weekend

The shower risk should have passed by Saturday afternoon and after that, there isn't much hope of any further rain. The wind will return to a NE’ly direction; no stronger than force 3-4, but even that will probably be enough to keep temperatures below 15°C.

Next Week

One more day (Monday) with a dry NE’ly airflow. Then, from Tuesday onwards, we will return to the more typical SW’ly airflow which will bring an alternating succession of brief wet spells and longer dry spells. With that kind of weather, at this time of year, the grass and weed growth will go into overdrive, so I expect w’ll be hearing a lot of lawn-mowers and maybe an increase in sneezes. Temperatures will be pretty average, peaking every day in the low to mid teens.

My next forecast update should be with you on Thursday or Friday. Until then, have fun and stay safe. GWF
