Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 06/05/2020

Wednesday

Weather

A lovely sunny day for the most part. Perhaps a little cloudy first thing in the morning, but certainly enough sunshine by the afternoon to take the temperature nicely into the high teens. Not only that, but the E’ly wind will be much lighter than the past couple of days, so it's really going to feel a lot warmer.

Surf and Tide

Just a one toot swell if we are lucky, but clean and ideal for young kids to learn on. The large tidal range will make life awkward though, keeping sessions very short, preferably whilst the tides is about 3/4 high. The tops of the tide being at 6:20am and 6:50pm (9.2m and 9.4m respectively). Low water being about 0.9m at 12:50pm.

Thursday

Weather

The sunshine much more hazy due to lots of high cloud. Occasionally this will thicken up enough to seem rather overcast, but it will still be lovely and warm, probably the warmest day of the week, with light SE’ly breezes taking us to a max of 19 or 20°C.

Surf and Tide

Once again, one-foot wonders are probably the best we are going to get, although there is a slim chance of the odd two-footer sneaking through in the late afternoon. Perfect for taking the kids in. BIG tides, with highs of 9.6m at 7:10am and 9.7m at 7:40pm.

Friday

Weather

Still a lovely day, that's for sure, but with the sunshine remaining rather muted by that high cloud, and most importantly with the breeze changing direction to an ENE’ly, we are probably looking at a more modest max of about 17-18°C.

Surf and Tide.

Same again; huge tides, tiny waves. Bliss for a bit of paddle-board exploration, especially at low water. The high tides will be about 9.8m this time at 8am and 8:20pm. Low water will be a mere 0.5m at 2:20pm

The Weekend

It's not looking nearly as wet as it previously did, with only a risk of the odd light shower. However, there will be a downhill trend, with Liberation Day feeling pretty much as warm as Friday, but then as we head through Sunday, the significantly increasing NE’ly wind is just going to make it feel chillier and chillier. The south coast will be the best place to enjoy a good walk, because it will offer some decent shelter from that wind.

Next Week

Continuing the trend that starts on Sunday, next week will be quite a lot colder than this week. The wind from the same NE’ly direction, but this time the air that it brings will have originated in the Arctic rather than in Central Europe. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will only have a top temperature of 10 or 11°C and with very strong winds (possibly gale force on Sunday night and then through Monday), it's going to feel really quite bitter compared to the week that preceded it. Weatherwise those three days should be mostly, if not entirely, dry. Skies will be partly sunny but there will be a lot of bubbly cumulus cloud and there is a risk that this might squeeze out the odd brief shower. The second half of the week doesn't promise to be a lot warmer; maybe just scraping up to 13° at best. However the wind does look likely to become lighter, so it ought to feel much more comfortable, and the threat of a shower will still be very small.
