Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 20/05/2020

Wednesday

Weather

The hottest day of the week so far, and it will probably prove to be hotter than the following days too. The max should be 22°C and this time, with the breeze coming from the SE’ly, the west side of the island will be warmer than the east, With particularly bright sunshine expected on this day, the UV index will reach 8, so skin protection will be extra important, not just if you are sunbathing but also if you are working outdoors. The only possible blight to that sunshine is some patchy sea fog, which might just blow in to the south and east coasts during the morning. If that happens then those areas willl feel a lot cooler, but the risk should be pretty much over by mid-afternoon.

Surf and Tide

Oh yes now we are talking. A stronger 3 foot swell with a super-clean offshore breeze. There should be some really fun waves, especially during the afternoon and evening, either side of the 8.2m high at 6:20pm.

Thursday

Weather

This is perhaps the most uncertain day of the week because it might be just as hot as Wednesday, due to some very warm and humid air coming up from the southwest. However, it will probably just be too cloudy and perhaps misty for the temperature to ever go that high. The other big uncertainty is whether we shall see any proper showers. There will certainly be some pretty vigorous thunderstorms over nearby France and over the south of England. However, for us, the greater likelihood is that the rain, falling from very high clouds, will just evaporate on the way down,

Surf and Tide

Another day of 2-3 feet waves. The wind won’t be offshore anymore, but it will be really light, so those waves should still be lovely and clean. The times of high water will be 6:40am and 7pm; 8.3m and 8.5m respectively.

Friday

Weather

A much more straightforwardly average day. Winds - moderate to fresh SW’ly, the top temp - about 15-16°C, the weather - a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine, along with a spell of showery rain (probably cheer in the morning).

Surf and Tide

So much bigger waves should arrive towards the end of the day. Rather choppy but at 4 to 6 feet, they will definitely offer some really fun conditions to shortboarders. The tides will be low at 1:30pm (1.8m) and high at 7:30pm (8.7m).

The Weekend

A couple of relatively cool days, but mostly dry and sunny, thanks to the arrival of another high pressure system. The only real chance of a shower is probably going to be early Saturday morning. The winds moderate W’ly on both days, so Town will always be the warmest of the most comfortable part of the island. The west-coast surf will be particularly big on Saturday, so that's the one to shoot for if you have lots of experience, but maybe give it a miss or head up to L’Ancresse if you are a novice.

Next Week

The relative coolness and breeziness of the weekend will come to a gradual end, as the centre of the high pressure system moves overhead on Monday, bringing very light and variable winds, then moves away towards Denmark for the rest of the week, bringing us another very warm and dry continental airflow. Temperatures are likely to peak in the very high teens on most days, but they could easily slip into the low twenties again on Wednesday and Thursday...

The next forecast update should be on Thursday or Friday.
