Wednesday
Weather
There seems to be something about warmth on Wednesdays at the moment. Once again, this is looking like the warmest day of the week, with a max temp of 23-24°C and the sunshine pretty much unbroken. I’m sure you’re used to it by now, but don’t forget your sunscreen, with the UV index peaking at 8, fair skinned people can get quite badly burnt in as little as 20 minutes.
Surf and the Water
With the NE’ly wind only light, all sides of the island should be really pleasant for swimming, but particularly so on the south coast and in the northern corners of the west-coast bays (such as near Fort Hommet and Fort Grande Rocques). In the surf, the swell will be a powerful 3 to 4 feet, so the west coast spots will be fantastic for the more experienced surfers, whilst the south coast could be lots of fun for kids on bodyboards during the afternoon.
Thursday
Weather
Another day of pristine sunshine with the UV index peaking at 8 around noon. The slight difference about this day will be a change to a moderate or perhaps fresh E’ly wind. This will make a noticeable difference in temperature around the island, with the east coast probably peaking around 18-19°C, whilst the more sheltered west goes on up to 21°C.
Surf and the Water
Smaller, cleaner west-coast surf on this day (about 2 feet). With a much smaller tidal range, it will be just as good around the late-afternoon low as it is around the mid-morning high, so the best time to go will simply be when it looks least crowded. As for swimming, the nicest time will probably be just before sunset, when the water washes in over pre-heated sand.
Friday
Weather
Almost identical day to Thursday, so just to remind you, that’s dry and sunny with a moderate to fresh E’ly wind and a top temperature of about 20°C on the west side of the island.
Surf and the Water
Almost flat in the surf, but if we are lucky then there might just be some ripples for young kids to practice on. Unfortunately a bit on the windy side for kayaking and paddle boarding, but perhaps not quite windy enough for kitesurfing. That's a little uncertain though, so keep an eye on it, maybe the wind-junkies will find a little something to play with. High water will be about 7.3m just before midday.
The Weekend and Beyond
Weather
The two weekend days will carry on with this dry E’ly wind bringing warm and sunny weather. The sunshine may turn a little hazy times with an increase in high cloud, and that should hopefully make for some spectacular sunsets. Going into next week, it looks as though it might be as late as Thursday before we finally lose the E’ly wind and see a slight change in the weather. With a low pressure system probably forming over Biscay and Brittany, this is when we are likely to see a showery (possibly thundery) breakdown to the current meteorological drought. Only beyond that point, are temperatures likely to drop back to average.
Surf and the Water
The surf is likely to fluctuate from day to day, between total flatness and 1-2 feet. The wind is likely to be a hindrance to surfers at times, but that could be to the benefit of kitesurfers. Through next week, the tides will gradually start to get large, with highs in excess of 9m by next Friday.
The next forecast update should be on Thursday evening.
