Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Friday 29/05/2020

Friday

The Weather

An almost identical day to Thursday except a little bit warmer, so just to remind you, that’s dry and totally sunny with a moderate to fresh ENE’ly wind. But this time the top temperature will be about 20°C rather than just 18.

Surf and the Water

Only slightly bigger than flat in the surf, but this should certainly be enough for young kids to practice on. Unfortunately it will be a bit on the windy side for kayaking and paddle boarding, but it might just be windy enough to give the kitesurfers and windsurfers a little something to play with. High water will be about 7.3m just before midday.

Saturday

The Weather

It's like Groundhog Day. The wind and the weather will be pretty much identical to Friday. Half the Forecast models say it will be a degree or two warmer, whilst the other half say it will be slightly cooler, so split the difference and we are looking at another 20° day.

Surf and the Water

Once again, the surf will really be the domain of young kids. The lightest winds (by a whisker) will be in the morning or if you can get nice and close to the wall around the lunchtime high tide. Later in the afternoon, those winds might just be brisk enough for the kites to come out again.

Sunday

The Weather

Groundhog Day again (I'm not sure I should say again, because that's the implicit thing about Groundhog Day). Anyway, wall-to-wall sunshine, UV index 8 (so suncream is essential), the wind force 4-5 ENE’ly and the top temp around 20°C.

Surf and the Water

The wave models are hinting at an increase from 1 foot to 2 feet of surf. I'm not sure how much we can trust this, when the swell has had three days of fairly strong offshore winds to battle against. However, there is just a chance that big people could join in the fun on this day.

Next Week

The Weather

The first couple of days look as though they might have some thicker high cloud, enough to make the sunshine hazy, but warmer air will be blowing in from the E at the same time at the same time, so we could see temperatures rise almost as high as on the Wednesday that we've just had (which was just shy of 24°C). The wind should fall light and variable by Wednesday, perhaps going to a W’ly by Friday, and that's when we are likely to see the next much-needed rainfall, along with more typical max temperatures in the mid-high teens.

Surf and The Water

The surf is likely to fluctuate from day to day, between total flatness and 1-2 feet. The wind should mostly be light enough that any waves we get will be clean, and it will also mean pretty good conditions for kayaking and paddle-boarding. As for the tides, they will gradually get big again, such that by Friday the highs will be in excess of 9m.

The next forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening.
