Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 08 May 2019

Elizabeth Hutchins

WEDNESDAY

WEATHER With Tuesday evening's rain having arrived on time and in full, it shouldn't have been too surprising to wake up to rather foul conditions on Wednesday. Whistly SW’ly winds (force 5) and the occasional drubbing of a shower. Going through the day, the showers will become rather isolated, and the sunny spells more lengthy. However, that trend will reverse again this evening and overnight. Town and Fermain will be the warmest spots today at 14-15C. Most other places will peak at 13C.

SURF AND TIDES Waves a little bit ragged during the day, but showing a marked improvement in the early evening, when some pretty clean 4-5 footers start to roll into Portinfer and Vazon. Tides, Low water will be at 3:50pm. High will be a 8.8m at 9:30am and 9:50pm.

LIBERATION DAY (THURSDAY)

WEATHER Despite similarly fresh winds (but WNW’ly this time), we should be in for sunnier day than Wednesday, with fewer showers. Town will once again be on the sheltered side of the island, which will be perfect for the festivities. Temperatures should peak at about 13-14C there. Other pleasant places to head to, include Petit Bot, Saints Bay and Moulin Huet.

SURF AND TIDES Choppy 5 foot surf on the west coast, but possibly a clean 2-3 foot wave at Petit Bot (better for body boarding than anything else). Tides will be about 8.5m high at 10:10am and then low at 4:30pm.

FRIDAY

WEATHER Cloudier on the whole, but calmer as winds settle down to a gentle force 3 SE’ly. Still some spells of hazy sunshine at times though, and then an increasing risk of showers in the evening. Head to the west coast to make the most of this day (max temps about 13C there).

SURF AND TIDES Waves super clean 2-3 feet. Tides; high water will be 8m at 11m, low at 5:10pm.

THE WEEKEND Fine and sunny both days, with a high UV index but pretty average temperatures (13-14C maxima). NW’ly winds will favour the south and east coasts on Saturday, but E’ly winds will favour the west coast on Sunday. Good beach weather but not a lot of excitement in the surf I'm afraid, maybe a clean 1-2 feet on Sunday if we are lucky.

MONDAY AND TUESDAY Looking gooood, with dry sunny weather, light to moderate E’ly breezes and temperatures perking up to 15 or possibly 16C.

The next forecast update will be on Thursday evening.
