Wednesday
The Weather
Thick cloud in the morning, thanks to a line of showers that wandered over from the Contentin in the night. However, as a gentle W’ly breeze develops through the day, that cloud should return to the east and blue sky should gradually prevail. Although the breeze will not be very strong at all, the east coast will be the most sheltered area, so Town will scoop the top temperature for the day, peaking at around 17-18°C.
Surf and the Water
Pretty much flat with respect to surf. That can be good news for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding though. Lots of lovely places to go, but I think the highlights will be the south-coast beaches around low tide in the morning, and then Bordeaux or Fermain for the late afternoon high.
Thursday
The Weather
All week this has been an extremely uncertain day, with the showers looking likely to be frequent and heavy, possibly leading to similar rainfall totals to last Thursday and Friday. However, the various forecast models keep shifting the position of the shower band. You might have noticed your weather apps keep changing their minds between total wetness and total sunshine. Suffice to say, it could still go either way, so probably good to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
Surf and the Water
Flat water and westerly winds again, perhaps a little stronger though, meaning the best option will be the east coast in the late afternoon again (or perhaps around dawn if you're that hardcore.
Friday
The Weather
Only the slim risk of a shower lingering into the morning, but we are most probably just looking at a dry and fairly sunny day. With the wind now expected to be a force 3-4 southwesterly, the north coast and some parts if the west coast will be almost as warm and comfortable as the east. The max temp for the island, will probably be 19°C in Town.
Surf and the Water
The tides are getting bigger day by day, around 8m high this time (at roughly 6am and 6pm). No real surf to speak of, but some lovely swimming and paddling conditions In sheltered bays like Fermain.
The Weekend
The Weather
Saturday will start off with hazy sunshine, but the cloud and the SSW’ly wind will increase through the day, ahead of a spell of overnight rain. That could be pretty heavy for a time but it will most likely be gone before the majority of islanders have got out of bed on Sunday morning. Sunday should then be dominated by bright sunshine, although, with a fresh WSW’ly wind, you will have to seek a bit of shelter to make the most of it. Temperatures peaking in the high teens again on both days.
Surf and the Water
A good wind for west coast surfers on Saturday, but there is currently no swell expected. Keep an eye on it though in case we get a sneaky 1-2 feet. Stranger things have happened. Sunday afternoon and evening will bring a larger and more dependable swell, hopefully as much as 4-6 feet. Slightly choppy but still fun for surfers. Probably a great moment for windsurfers and kitesurfers too.
Next Week
The Weather
It looks as though the first half of the week will be dominated by S’ly or SW’ly breezes, bringing quite a lot of cloud and possibly the odd spell of rain (most likely just light though). The second half of next week is obviously uncertain territory because it's so far away, but the bulk of Forecast models are predicting an increase in heat and sunshine, along with light NE’ly breezes.
Surf and the Water
It's looking like good clean surf every day, mostly around 3-5 feet in size. The tides low in the afternoons, and around 8.5m high in the mornings and evenings.
The next forecast update should be with you on Friday.
