Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 25/06/2020

Thursday

The Weather

The hottest day of the week and perhaps the (we shall have to see). 28-29°C should be the general island-wide max, but we could go all the way to 30°C in the Torteval area. The breeze will be just a light E'ly, so if you are really finding it too hot, then head to one of the east-coast beaches or to the bathing pools, where the onshore flow should shave a few degrees off. Aside from the heat, we could be in for a thundery evening and night. It's uncertain what time this should all set in, and how much lightning we will be treated to, but we will probably catch 5-10mm of rain by the end of the night.

Surf and the Water

The last in this particular run of amazing surf days. Waves about 2-4 feet with a large tidal range… 8.4m high at 10:10am, then 2.1m low at 4:20pm, then 8.6m high at 10:20pm.

Friday

The Weather

A misty, murky and much cooler start to the day, with force 3-4 SW’ly breezes. The sunshine should emerge again in the afternoon, but this time it’s only going to raise temperatures to about 20 or 21°C. I'm not expecting any showers during daylight. The thundery ones of the previous night should have departed and then we probably won't see any more until after midnight.

Surf and the Water

It's obviously going to be a bit of a comedown but we will still have a sloppy 2-3 feet that will be rideable if your keen enough. For swimming and paddle boarding then Fermain is really going to be the pick of the bunch.

The Weekend

The Weather

The only wet time looks like Saturday morning, and the rest of the weekend is looking to be dry with an even mix of cloud and sunshine, perhaps sunniest of all on Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will probably peak at 19-20°C, with town always been the warmest place, thanks to its shelter from the moderate to fresh WSW’ly winds.

Surf and the Water

A couple more days of choppy sloppy 2-3 foot surf, but it will ne plenty rideable even if it isn't a patch on the first half of the week. Once again, the most sheltered bay for swimming and paddle boarding will be likes of Havelet and Fermain.

Next Week

The Weather

A climatologically normal week, which we must remember isn't too bad when we are talking about the later days of June. A succession of high-pressure ridges and low-pressure troughs, will keep moving through on a W’ly or SW’ly airflow. This will bring the odd spell of rain every couple of days but there will also be plenty of sunny moments and when they coincide with late morning and early afternoon, then we shall have a UV index of 7 or 8 and suncream will certainly be required. Temperatures, however, will probably never quite make it to 20°C.

Surf and the Water

Small tides, with the highs starting off around lunchtime and gradually nudging into the afternoons. The surf remaining in the 2-3 feet range and mostly rather choppy.

The next forecast update should be with you on Friday.
