Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 01/07/2020

Wednesday

The Weather

It seems that we are in for a better day than previously expected, with yesterday having laid claim to all of the rain, drizzle and fog. Today will still be a bit cloudy and breezy though, the bulk of that cloud being through the morning and the best chance of sunny intervals during the afternoon and evening. Wind-wise, it's a moderate WSW’ly gradually veering W’ly, so the east coast will always be the most sheltered and comfortable, along with some south-coast nooks a little later in the day.

Surf and the Water

Not so good for windsurfers today, and a bit smaller and sloppier for the surfers too. A better day for swimmers and paddle-boarders though, especially at places like Fermain or Saints Bay around 4pm, when the tide will be 7.9m high.

Thursday

The Weather

Not desperately different from Wednesday, with quite a lot off cloud in the morning, along with the chance of the odd passing shower, followed bya good amount of sunshine in the afternoon. The wind continuing to blow at moderate strength from a W’ly direction, meaning that Town will be the warmest area, scooping a max temp of about 18°C, whilst other locations only manage 16-17°C.

Surf and the Water

Over on the west coast, it's looking like another fairly low quality day for surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers, but it’s neither going to be flat or calm, so it's a lot better than a poke in the eye. On this occasion the tide will be 8.2m high at 5:10pm, and that's when the swimming conditions will be nicest along the south and east coasts.

Friday

The Weather

The previously expected wet a windy weather has now bumbled along to Saturday, leaving Friday with virtually the same pleasantly average conditions as the previous two days.

Surf and the Water

With virtually the same wind and weather as Thursday, the watersports forecast is pretty identical too. The only difference being the tides, which will be roughly 2m low at ten minutes past midday, then 8.6m high at 6:10pm

The Weekend

The Weather

As alluded to above, Saturday is looking pretty filthy, with force 6-7 SW’ly winds, grey skies and occasional drizzle. Without getting much lighter, Sunday’s wind will veer to a W’ly direction, which will bring slightly cooler, drier air, allowing the cloud to fragment and the sunshine to return. Both days will see a top temperature of roughly 17-18°C, which is pretty much the same as every day this week.

Surf and the Water

With all that wind, it's looking like the windsurfers and kitesurfers will be the happiest people on the water, but there should be some slightly chunky swell to entertain the surfers too (not really very suitable for beginners though). As for the tides; they will carry on getting bigger, with peaks of just under 9m on Saturday evening and just over 9m on Sunday evening.

Next Week

Most probably totally dry week, and certainly an improving week in terms of the temperature and the wind. The first half of the week (Monday to Wednesday) will probably be sunny for the most part although not without a few lengthy cloudy spells. The main thing will be that a W’ly airflow, although relatively gentle, will prevent temperatures from ever exceeding the high teens. However, from Thursday onwards, there will be a much higher chance of hitting or exceeding 20°C every day, as high-pressure will move over the islands, possibly changing the wind direction to one with some continental influence.
