Wednesday and Thursday
The Weather
During these two days, a low pressure system will be crossing the south of the UK from west to east. This will bring a moderate to fresh WSW’ly airflow to the Channel and, although the wettest weather will be reserved for the UK, it does mean rather persistent murky weather for us. The bulk of Wednesday will be overcast and misty, but it should be mostly dry with the odd glimpse of weak sunshine in the afternoon. Going through this evening and tonight, The cloud will be low enoug to bring fog to the islands as well as occasional drizzle. This murky story will hold, albeit with small fluctuations, through the bulk of Thursday, with no sign of a reliable clearance until dawn on Friday. On both Wednesday and Thursday, the most sheltered and warmest conditions will be found in Town and around Fermain Bay.
Surf and the Water
Rather like the blanket of cloud, the surf will be a bit up-and-down, fluctuating between 2 feet and 4 feet, mostly rather choppy but occasionally a little cleaner. If you are seeking calmer water for a swim or a paddle then head to the east coast, particularly Fermain and Havelet. Up north, Pembroke will also be quite nice, if you catch it at high water. Those highs will be at 9:40am on Wednesday and 10:10am on Friday.
Friday
The Weather
And it's back to clear air and sunshine, as Thursday's murk is chased away by the NW’ly wind, that comes at the leading edge of an approaching high pressure system. As the high builds through the day, the breeze should ease from a moderate force 4 to a gentle force 3, meaning that the sunshine should feel increasingly pleasant. That said, the mercury probably won't rise higher than 17-18°C, which is about the same as the murky days that came before it. We shall have to wait at least until the weekend to start turning up the heat.
Surf and the Water
2-4 feet and choppy on the west-coast, smooth and silky down on the south coast. The tide; just under 8m high at 10:50am, then about 2.6m low at 5pm.
The Weekend
The Weather
As high pressure becomes settled over the Celtic Sea, we are in for two full days of sunshine and very light NE’ly breezes. The temperature should return to the magic 20°C, if not by the end of Saturday afternoon then certainly by the end of Sunday afternoon. Both lgreat days for the beach and for barbecues etc. The south coast will always be the loveliest area, but pay attention to the tides. If it's lots of sand you're looking for then you will have to leave it at least until mid afternoon.
Surf and the Water
The surf; 2-3' and a little choppy in the sideshore breeze on Saturday, gradually dropping off to cleaner 1 foot waves in Sunday's gentle ENE'ly. The conditions for swimming and Kayaking etc are looking lovely on both days, especially down on the south coast. The tidal movements will be pretty small, with highs at 11:30am Saturday and at midday on Sunday.
Next Week
The Weather
With bright sunshine and a mostly E’ly breeze, dry continental air will allow max temperatures to rise a degree or so each day up until Wednesday or Thusday. That's when the likely development of thundery showers in Normandy, will turn our skies more cloudy and stop the temperature from rising any further than the low-mid twenties. Whether we see any showers ourselves is very uncertain, and even more uncertain is whether we will trend towards further settled conditions into next weekend, or whether things will take a turn for the worse. Keep an eye on the updates to see how that story develops.
Surf and the Water
Looking pretty smooth and flat at least at the start of the week. However, with various low pressure systems out in the mid-Atlantic, we are bound to see some good clean waves pop up at times later. The tidal movements will be very small all week, which is great news for the west coast, because you can turn up at just about any time, and find a decent amount of sand to settle on, without having to walk very far to cool off in that beautiful clear water.
The next forecast update will be with you on Saturday morning.
