Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Saturday 11/07/2020

Saturday

The Weather

Inherently cool air will be over the islands, trickling in on a light force 2-3 N’ly breeze. This will mean fantastic clarity and visibility across to the other islands and the French coast. It will also mean a full day of sunshine, allowing the temperature to rise to a maximum of about 19°C. The night time temperature will be pretty low though, falling to a minimum of 11 or 12°C, much like it did on Friday night.

Surf and the Water

Obviously this will be a bit of downtime for windsurfers and kite-surfers. But the swimming and kayaking conditions will be fantastic, and the surf will be ok, at about 2 feet and a fair bit cleaner than of late. High tide will be about 7.6m at 11:30am and then low tide 3.5m at 5:30pm.

Sunday and Monday

The Weather

With the gentle airflow veering to a NE’ly direction, we will start to feel a small amount of influence from nearby Europe, so the temperature should rise by a degree or two, probably peaking at 20-21°C on both days. Sunday’s sunshine and visibility should be almost as fabulous as Saturdays, but we will start to see things turn a bit more hazy on Monday, as high cloud spreads in ahead of a weak weather front in Southern England.

Surf and the Water

The surf still quite clean but pretty weak and only about a foot in height. The swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding conditions will be just as lovely as on Saturday. The south coast always being the cream of the crop, but the other coasts almost as smooth. The tidal movements very small, with lunchtime highs of about 7.2m on Sunday and about 6.9m in Monday.

Tuesday and Wednesday

The Weather

With the wind having strengthened to a moderate to fresh W’ly on Monday night, that weak weather front will be allowed to move over us on Tuesday, mainly just bringing cloudy skies and shaving a couple degrees off the max temp. However, there are likely to be a couple of brief spells of rain or drizzle, probably one in the morning and one in the evening. After that, Wednesday will just have isolated showers over the Channel, one or two of them possibly catching the island's, but the vast majority of them tending to miss us.

Surf and the Water

The surf; 2-3' and choppy. The smoother water for swimming etc, will be found on the east coast on Tuesday (mainly Fermain), and then also the south coast on Wednesday (particularly Petit Bot, Saints and Moulin Huet).

The Rest of the Week

The Weather

The wind will ease to a gentle NW’ly, maintaining an airflow of average temperature for the time of year, but with plenty of sunshine and no rain. We should just amble from about 12-13°C at dawn every day, up to about 19°C in the mid-late afternoons. The UV index still a high 7 every day, if not quite reaching 8, so best make sure you haven't run out of suncream yet.

Surf and the Water

Maybe the odd surfable moment, but there's very little promise in the forecast, with only shallow lows mid-Atlantic, and no sign of tropical storm development off the American east coast. Therefore it's going to be all about the flat water activities, and once again, the south and east coasts will offer the smoothest conditions.

The next forecast update will be with you on Monday morning.
