Wednesday
The Weather
The first half of the day is looking the cloudiest, with the odd spot of rain possible. Then the afternoon is looking dry and often quite bright. All in all, it's not looking very different from Tuesday, with a force 3-4 WNW’ly wind and a max temp of about 17°C in most places, but 18°C in Town.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 1-2 foot waves on the west coast, and some pretty smooth conditions for paddling or swimming on the south and east. The tidal range will be very small, with a high of just 6.9m at 2:50pm.
Thursday
The Weather
Dry throughout, with a gentler NW’ly breeze and a little more sunshine. As a result, most parts of the island should climb to a very comfortable 18-19°C, whilst Town goes all the way to the magic 20°C.
Surf and the Water
Very near flat in the surf. Even the north and west coasts will be reasonably smooth on this day, now that the NW’ ly wind is lighter, but the south and ease will still be the crew of the crop for swimmers. High water just 7.1m at 4pm.
Friday
The Weather
Whilst the wind stays from a NW’ly direction, it will fall even lighter than on Thursday, so with similar amounts of sunshine we should reach at least 20°C, maybe even a little bit more. The beaches should be lovely at the end of the school/working day, but don't forget your suncream. The UV index will only just be falling away from its peak of 7.
Surf and the Water
Just like on Thursday, no surf to speak of but some lovely conditions for swimmers, especially around the 7.4m high at 5pm.
The Weekend
The Weather
It looks likely that temperatures will rise by at least a degree per day, as breeze slips round to a NE’ly direction by Sunday, introducing a little continental influence to the air As for the weather details, we are probably just looking at hazy sunshine for the most part. There is just a slim chance that Saturday night will bring a line of showers southwards across the Channel. However, it's far more likely that it will move eastwards across the UK instead.
Surf and the Water
Very little promise of surf in the forecast, with only shallow lows mid-Atlantic, and no sign of tropical storm development off the American east coast. However, if we are treated to a 1-2 foot pulse, then it is certainly going to be clean and well formed. The tides will be high around dawn and towards dinnertime, increasing in size until they exceed 8m on Sunday evening.
Next Week
The Weather
Dry, sunny and potentially quite hot, with max temperatures in the low to mid twenties. That's as far as Thursday. After that, the chances of thundery showers increases, along with a return to slightly cooler conditions.
Surf and the Water
The only promise of semi-decent surf in the forecast, is towards Friday and the weekend, when there's a good chance of a mid-Atlantic low pressure system deep enough to make more than knee-high waves. Lovely conditions for swimming throughout the week though, and the water temperature will probably be up to 17 or 18°C by the end of it. The tidal range will be large throughout the week, with highs around the 9m mark, during the mornings and evenings. The afternoon lows, being particularly good for exposing the south-coast beaches and the Lihou Island causeway.
The next forecast update will be with you on either Thursday evening or Friday morning.
