Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 22/07/2020

Wednesday

The Weather

Another pristine blue-sky day, but the the NE’ly wind will only be about light force 2 throughout, so we should see slightly higher max temps… 22°C in most parts of the island, possibly even 23°C in the most favoured spots.

Surf and the Water

Another near-flat day in the surf, but even more fabulous for swimming and kayaking etc, especially along the beautiful south coast. High water will be about 8.8m at 8:40am and 9.1m at 8:50pm. Low water will be about 1.4m at 2:50pm.

Thursday

The Weather

Calm and hopefully sunny through the morning and lunchtime, but increasingly cloudy and a little breezy towards the end of the day. There's even a slim chance that a brief light shower could blow in from the west. Max temps only 20-21°C on this day.

Surf and the Water

The water conditions almost identical to Wednesday during the morning, but by late afternoon, the west coast will have turned a little more choppy. High water will be about 8.9m at 9:20am and 9.2m at 9:30pm. Low water will be about 1.4m at 3:30pm.

Friday

The Weather

This had been a very uncertain day, with a 50/50 chance of rain or shine. However, it now looks pretty certain that the wet stuff will focus on NW Britain, reserving our share for Saturday. So for us, Friday is just looking cloudy, with a very similar max temperature to Thursday (20-21°C), however with a stronger W’ly airflow (probably force 4), this warmth will be reserved for eastern parts like Town, whilst the rest of the island lags a degree or two behind.

Surf and the Water

Although the choppy onshore conditions will be rather poor quality, we should at least be looking at west-coast surf of a rideable size on this day. The east coast will generally offer the smoothest water for other activities. Although there will be sheltered nooks all around the island, if you focus on the 8.9m high tide at 10am.

The Weekend

The Weather

It's looking like a mix of sunshine and showers. Some of those showers could turn into longer spells of rain, especially on Saturday. The wind generally a moderate W’ly, bringing max temperatures back down to the high teens or 20°C at best. Sunday currently looks the finer day, if you are planning outdoor activities, with Town and other sheltered eastern parts scooping the highest temperatures.

Surf and the Water

Once again, the west-coast surf will be pretty messy. However, I'm sure that keen surfers will be please to see the waves pick up to chest-high on Sunday (maybe even by late Saturday). The tide heights not quite so large anymore, dropping to 8.8m and then 8.5m respectively in the late mornings.

Next Week

The Weather

Still soggy at times on Monday, as we maintain the showery W’ly airflow. High-pressure will start to build over the nearby Atlantic on Tuesday though, putting us in a sunny and gentle, but relatively cool NW’ly. By Thursday, the high should be overhead, and then it will move to the east, giving is a much warmer airflow straight off the continent. So, in summary, a mostly dry and settled week, with the temperature starting a little below average but most likely finishing well above.

Surf and the Water

Finally the weather charts are suggesting some really decent surf. However, it's not until Wednesday that a fairly deep low is expected to move into the mid Atlantic, so with the swell taking a couple of days to travel here, we are only talking about on Friday and/or the weekend. In the meantime, Monday’s onshore winds could give us some small sloppy waves that are at least rideable, and the calmer mid-week conditions should be as lovely as ever for swimming and kayaking etc.

The next forecast update will be with you on either Thursday or Friday.
