Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Friday 24/07/2020

Friday

The Weather

The morning will be very similar to the night that preceded it; rather cloudy with the odd spell of mist and drizzly rain, mainly around the airport and on the western slopes of the island. Looking ahead to this afternoon, sunshine should break through, to allow a few warm and pleasant hours (max temps 19-20°C in most areas but 20-21°C around Town). Don’t get too carried away though, because the cloud and rain will return this evening. We might just squeeze a colourful sunset in beforehand, but we are probably pushing our luck a bit there. The wind force 3-4 WSW’ly throughout.

Surf and the Water

Although the choppy onshore conditions will be rather poor quality, we should at least be looking at west-coast surf of a rideable size (1-2 feet). The east coast will generally offer the smoothest water for other activities, although there will be sheltered nooks all around the island, if you have a bit of a rummage. High tide will be about 8.9m at 10am, low tide will be about 1.5m at 4:20pm.

Saturday

The Weather

Winds will back to a moderate to fresh SSW’ly ahead of a more active weather front than we have seen for a while. Our thirsty gardens, probably receiving around 5-10mm of showery rain between late morning and late evening. The temperature peaking between 17°C and 19°C during the day, then only dropping to a minimum of 15°C during the night, when the wind veers W’ly and the foul weather departs.

Surf and the Water

The surf might be fractionally larger than Saturday, and it will certainly be quite a lot cleaner. There might also be enough wind for the kite-surfers to have some fun. As for the swimmers... Pembroke will probably be your best option, as the tide comes up towards the late morning high of about 8.8m.

Sunday

The Weather

Bright and breezy. Just the smallest chance of a brief light shower, morning and evening. The wind will be a force 4-5 WSW’ly throughout, The max temps generally 18-19°C, but we might just squeeze 20°C if we are lucky.

Surf and the Water

A rather sloppy and choppy day for surfers, but with wave heights of 3-4 feet it will have more to offer than most days of late. Once again, kite-surfers will probably find enough wind to play with. Swimmers; Fermain will be your best bet, especially around the 8.4m high tide at 11:30am.

Next Week

The Weather

Monday and Tuesday both look likely to have rain in the mornings and sunshine through the afternoons, although Tuesday afternoon’s sunshine could be somewhat spoilt by a fresh to strong NW’ly wind. Pretty normal July temperatures, peaking at 19-20°C on both days. The rest of the week is currently looking dry and settled, with high pressure decreasing the wind and increasing the sunshine as we progress through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Max temps likely reaching the mid-twenties, especially on Friday.

Surf and the Water

Monday currently offers the most dependable surf, with clean 3-4 footers probably in plentiful supply. Tuesday will be messy but probably still fun good for windsurfers too. The next couple of days are likely to be very small. However, with a deep low in the mid-Atlantic, there is a chance we could be see quite a lot more size and power through Friday and the following weekend. As for the tides, they will be medium-sized, with the highs around lunchtime on Monday and Tuesday, progressing to 5pm on Friday.

The next forecast update will be with you on Sunday evening.
