Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Saturday 01/08/2020

Saturday

The Weather

Force 3-4 W’ly winds will bring quite a bit of cloud in the morning but probably a majority of sunshine in the afternoon. The temperatures back to normal now, with a max of 19-20°C in most parts but 21°C in Town.

Surf and the Water

Fermain will have the smoothest conditions for swimming, with various other eastern and southern nooks playing a close second. Over on the west coast the water will be a bit rougher and choppier. It’s good news for surfers though, with about 4-5 feet waves throughout the day. Low water at precisely midday, high water will be close to 8m roughly six hours before and after.

Sunday

The Weather

The morning and early afternoon should see enough sunshine to lift the temperature to the same heights as on Saturday. However, late afternoon and evening are looking cloudy, ahead of some overnight rain. The winds once again force 3-4 W’ly, so Town will no doubt be the warmest spot.

Surf and the Water

Very little change in terms of smoothest water in the east and roughest in the west. The waves will be a tad smaller though, 3-4 feet and still plenty of fun. This time the tide will be about 8.1m at 6:30am and 8.6m at 6:50pm.

Monday Tuesday and Wednesday

The Weather

The theme for these three days is changeable, with small-scale low-pressure systems affecting southwest England and northwest France. The Channel Islands certainly copping some rain at times, but the timings being very uncertain and the details likely to change from one forecast to the next. At this stage, it is sufficient to say that each day will have a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine and the rain is unlikely to add up to more than 5mm across the entire period. The winds will vary in direction, according to the precise position of these low-pressure systems. However, with the most common direction likely to be SW’ly, we shall probably carry on peaking at about 20°C every day.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be reasonably clean at times, but rather choppy at others. Always about 2-3 feet and rather weak but still rideable. The tidal range will get slightly larger each day, with the highest tide in the late evenings; 8.8m on Monday and about 9.1m on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Rest of Next Week

The Weather

It’s far from certain, so don’t be surprised to see a few changes in the forecast, from one update to the next. However, the current expectation is for high pressure to build over the UK and France, bringing a gentler, warmer and drier E’ly or N’ly airflow from Thursday through until Sunday. Friday currently looks likely to be the toastiest day, with a likely max of 23-24°C.

Surf and the Water

The afternoons are looking lovely for the south coast, because they will coincide with the very low tides and wind will be a gentle offshore there. Over on the west coast, there is a chance that the surf will fall flat. However, it’s more likely that we will maintain a clean 1-2 feet for the majority of the time.

The next forecast update will be with you on Sunday evening.
