Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Friday 14/08/2020

Friday

Weather

This forecast has taken a turn for the worse, with the sunshine only finding a small window of opportunity, in the late afternoon and evening. The rest of the day will be cloudy, occasionally misty and showery. Just like Thursday was, except this time it will feel quite a lot cooler, with a force 4-5 W’ly wind. With the temperature only reaching a max of 20°C in most parts, you will really need to head into Town to find an extra degree of heat.

Surf and The Water

Choppy and sloppy west-coast surf, but 2-3 feet nonetheless, so certainly worth a bash. Furthermore, it could be just about windy enough for a bit of Kite-surfing too. Best to head east if you’re after some smooth water for a swim or a paddle. The tidal range will be tiny again, with less than 3m difference between high and low (high water 6.8m at 3:10pm).

Saturday

Weather

Cloudy at times, but sunny for the most part, with the wind falling light and the temperature climbing about a degree higher than on Friday.

Surf and The Water

It’s not looking good for surfers I’m afraid. The wind should drop off so the west coast ripples clean. However, the biggest ones will only be knee-high if we are lucky. Great swimming conditions on all coasts in the afternoon. Low water 3.6m at 10:10am, high water 7.2m at 4:20pm.

Sunday

Weather

With the gentle breeze returning to an E’ly and then a S’ly direction, we shall start to import some French showers again (or possibly thunderstorms). The best chance of dryness and sunshine will probably be in the afternoon, but my confidence in that statement is very low at the moment.

Surf and The Water

The surf’s looking flat in all forecast models I’m afraid. The wind will be gentle and offshore on the north and west coast, so those beaches will be the best for swimmers and paddle-boarders, but the southern and eastern beaches will be almost as lovely. (Check the sky and the radar though, it’s never a good idea to go out if lightning is nearby). Low water 3.1m at 11:20am, high water 7.2m at 5:30pm.

Next Week

Weather

Force 3-4 W’ly winds, will gradually back to a S’ly direction, as we go through Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. This will probably have the effect of lifting our max temps day by day; 21°C on Monday, 22°C on Tuesday and possibly 23°C on Wednesday. The weather throughout this period is expected to be a mixture of cloudy spells and sunny intervals, with the odd spell of showery rain (although it will probably stay dry on Tuesday). Looking ahead to Thursday and Friday, the wind will become rather fresh, as a deep low pressure system moves into the southwest approaches. This will bring lots of moist and muggy air, so we can expect some more lengthy spells of rain and drizzle, but it certainly won’t be cold.

Surf and The Water

The surf is looking pretty much flat at least until Wednesday, but there is the potential for some relatively big waves after that, with winds coming mostly from a S’ly direction, they should also be nice and clean. Spring tides, increasing in size through the working week, peaking on Friday evening, with a high of about 9.9m at 21:20pm (there could be some unusually big splashes for summer).

The next forecast update will be with you on Sunday evening.
