Monday
The Weather
Another day with thundery showers swirling around the area but quite possibly missing the islands altogether. Of course, if we do catch any of these showers then they could give us a pretty thorough soaking, but if they miss us like they did on Sunday, then it’s simply going to be another decent summer’s day. One small difference is the wind though; this time it will gradually increase to a force 3-4 WSW’ly, which won’t be quite so warm. The most probable max being 20°C in most areas and 21°C in Town.
Surf and the Water
There’s a small chance that the onshore slop will be just about surfable on the west coast. No doubt about good swimming conditions on the sheltered east coast though. The tides will be 2.6m low around midday and 8.4m high at 6:20pm.
Tuesday
The Weather
With lighter SW’ly winds and lots more sunshine than Monday, all parts of the islands should become at least a degree warmer. The chance of a shower on this day will be almost zero.
Surf and the Water
Even less chance of any west-coast surf than Monday had to offer. The east coast swims will be just as lovely though. The tides will be 2m low at 1:10pm and 8.9m high at 7:10pm.
Wednesday
The Weather
Some pretty warm and humid air will come streaming in on a moderate to fresh SSE’ly wind. However, that warmth will immediately be offset by cloudy skies and a quite lot of rain (some models are suggesting about 20-30mm!). If we see any sunshine at all then it’s probably going to be in the late afternoon, and that’s when we are likely to hit the max temp of 22°C.
Surf and the Water
There will be a deep low-pressure system, generating large waves in the mid-Atlantic, but I’m afraid that surfers will have to wait a little longer before they reach Guernsey. The winds might well be strong enough for a decent bit of kite-surfing or windsurfing though, The tides will be 1.5m low at 2pm and the highs will be about 9m at 7:40am and 9.5m at 7:50pm.
Thursday and Friday
The Weather
Thursday might have one or two brief showers in the morning, but it should soon turn into a lovely sunny day. The wind will still be pretty perky though (probably a force 4-5 SSW’ly), so it will be worth tucking into a sheltered corner if you are planning on hitting the beach. Going on to Friday, there will probably be very little change, except for a further increase in the wind-strength and therefore a slightly cooler feeling. Max temps, probably 23°C on Thursday and 22°C on Friday.
Surf and the Water
The tidal range will be at its largest over these two days, with the biggest high being very close to 10m on Friday evening, on account for the sea surface being further lifted by the low atmospheric pressure. At the same time the surf will be increasing from almost flat at the start of Thursday to a powerful 8 feet by the end of Friday. Take care along the coast roads at high tide, because the splashes will be much larger than we usually see outside of the winter months.
The Weekend
The Weather
With the wind veering to a moderate WSW’ly, we will have cooler air than the previous couple of days, but it will probably feel just as warm in Town and sheltered eastern bays like Fermain. The skies should be a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine, and the gardens might benefit from one or two light showers, but without any significant weather-fronts in the pipeline, there is also a strong possibility that we will remain dry.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be choppy on both days, still about 6 feet on Saturday and probably only half the size on Sunday. The east coast will offer the smoothest water for swimming and paddle-boarding etc. The tides will be high in the late mornings (about 9.5m and 9.3m respectively).
The next forecast update will be with you on Tuesday or Wednesday.
