7-day Forecast. Starting Bank Holiday Monday 31/08/2020

Bank Holiday Monday

The Weather

Apart from the air still being on the cool side of average (18-19°C max), it looks as though we have been blessed with some lovely bank-holiday weather this time. High pressure will be centred over the area, meaning that we will barely feel a breath of wind, and the only cloud we are likely to see are a few little puffs of fair-weather cumulus.

Surf and the Water

A flat day for surfers but an incredibly good day for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding, with glassy water surrounding the island and incredible visibility too. The tides will be 8m high at 6:20am, 2.4m at 12:40pm and then 8.4m high at 6:30pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday

The Weather

The high-pressure system looks set to deflect any rotten weather northwards for at least another two days, as the gentle breeze settles into an E’ly direction on Tuesday and then a S’ly on Wednesday. This should lift temperatures to a comfortable 20-21°C as we import some new air from the continent. The weather should be sunny all day on Tuesday and then gradually become cloudy though Wednesday. All areas should feel very comfortable, but the far west of the island will probably be the warmest (by a whisker).

Surf and the Water

Some lovely clean 1-2 foot surf should arrive on the west coast on Tuesday morning, picking up to 2-3 feet by Wednesday. Tidal movements will be fairly large, thanks to the full moon... the highest tide on Tuesday being 8.8m at 7:10pm, then the highest tide on Wednesday being about 9.1m at 7:50pm.

Thursday and Friday

The Weather

Two potentially wet days. Of course they won’t be entirely wet, but with a wobbly weather front coming and going, it’s fair to say that it will sometimes be rainy, sometimes drizzly and sometimes misty and murky. The wind consistently a moderate WSW’ly, daytime temperatures between 19 and 21°C, night-time temperatures between 16 and 18°C.

Surf and the Water

Slightly choppy 3-4 foot waves on the west coast, whilst the best swimming conditions will be on the north and the east. The tidal highs generally slightly over 9m, around breakfast time and around dusk.

The Weekend

The Weather

Becoming dry and settled again, but not too toasty, as the air will be coming down form the NNE. Max temps probably only reaching 19°C. Head to the south coast for the best of it.

Surf and the Water

It’s very uncertain whether or not there will be any surf left over. However, we can be sure of some great swimming conditions on the south coast beaches, especially during the late afternoons, when the highest temperatures will coincide with the low-tides.

The next forecast update will be with you on Tuesday or Wednesday.
