Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Thursday 03/09/2020

Thursday

The Weather

Mild, muggy, moist, misty and I’ve pretty much run out of m-words. The wind will be a force 3-4 WSW’ly for the most part, but it will increase to fresh force 5 at times. The western slopes and the airport will probably see some drizzle and fog at times, but the east coast should be noticeably drier and possibly even quite bright around lunchtime (if we are lucky). The top temperature about 21°C.

Surf and The Water

Semi-clean west-coast waves, in the order of 2-3 feet. Borderline conditions for kite-surfers, maybe just about windy enough for some fun. As for the tides, the highs will close to 9m at breakfast time and soon after dusk.

Friday

The Weather

With the wind veering to a gentler NW’ly, the murky weather will amble southwards. The cloud will probably hang around into the afternoon, but we should finish the day with some sunshine. Head to Town for the warmest conditions (max temp 20°C).

Surf and The Water

Lovely swimming conditions on the east and south coasts. As for the west-coast surf, well onshore winds will be light enough in the morning, that the 4-foot waves should be nice and clean, but it will be quite a bit messier in the afternoon. The tides, much like the last few days, with highs of around 9m at breakfast time and soon after dusk.

The Weekend

The Weather

Two mostly dry days, with some cloudy spells but also a good amount of sunshine. There is the slim chance of a shower on Sunday, but it would only be a few spits and spots. Certainly not enough to spoil your day. The wind will remain a force 3-4 NW’ly, just like on Friday, so Town will be the warmest spot again, closely followed by some of the south and east coast beaches.

Surf and The Water

Much like Friday, there might be moments when the wind is light enough for the west-coast surf to be reasonably clean, but for the most part it will be a bit of a choppy old mess there. The smoothest and prettiest conditions will always be in the south and east. With the tidal range still relatively large, the south-coast beaches will have lots of sand in the late afternoons, so Moulin Huet and Petit Bot will probably be the pick of the bunch for both swimmers and sandcastles.

Next Week

The Weather

It’s a pretty gorgeous outlook. We might have to wait until Tuesday to fully chase away the cloud and isolated showers, but high pressure will build over the Channel through the rest of the week, bringing lots of sunshine, very little wind and a welcome rise in temperatures.

Surf and The Water

Looking lovely for trips to the beach, with lots of smooth water for swimming and paddling, but also a steady pulse of small waves for learner-surfers and longboarders. There will be some daily variation between the size and quality of the west-coast surf (but mostly 1-2 feet and clean). The tides will be getting steadily smaller, until we have highs of less than 7m on Friday.

The next forecast update will be with you on Friday.
