Friday and Saturday
Weather
Two very similar days, because the wind will be a force 2-3 W’ly throughout, and the sky should be a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine. All resulting in the same max temps; about 18°C in western parts and 19-20°C in sheltered eastern parts like Town. The nightly minima; around 13°C on Friday night and 14°C on Saturday night.
Surf and the Water
Down on the beaches, there will be very little tidal movement, with lunchtime highs of just 6.7m on Friday and 6.6m on Saturday. This means that the west-coast surf should be rideable throughout, which should mean it doesn’t get too crowded at any particular time. Wave heights; 1-2 feet on Friday, picking up to 3 feet on Saturday. As for swimming and paddle-boarding, the options are pretty limitless, but I think that Bordeaux and Fermain will probably be the best of the lot.
Sunday and Monday
Weather
With the wind backing to a ESE’ly direction, we are really going to pull in some continental heat. The air will be very dry too, resulting in almost cloudless skies on both days. The max temps on Sunday 22-23°C with just a gentle breeze. The max temps on Monday 24-26°C, but that hot feeling will be moderated to some extent, by a small increase in the wind.
Surf and the Water
In this wind direction, the west coast beaches will really be the cream of the crop for all activities. The more exposed spots can expect clean 3-foot surf, whilst the more sheltered corners will be lovely and smooth for swimming. Once again, the small tidal range should help to thin the crowds out, because all times of day should be about as lovely as each-other. Late afternoon highs of about 7m on Sunday and about 7.7m on Monday.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
The details are very uncertain, because there will be a fairly deep low-pressure system in the Bay of Biscay on Monday and Tuesday, and forecast models are currently rather inconsistent in their ideas about where it will go next. The most likely scenario is that we will enjoy a very warm week (maybe not quite as hot as on Monday), with mostly E’ly winds (light force 3 to fresh force 5). Skies will either be rather cloudy or we shall have hazy sunshine filtering through. There could be showers on any day from Tuesday onwards; probably rather few and far between but possibly heavy and thundery. Keep an eye on next week’s updates, because it’s a particularly hard to make accurate predictions in this type of set-up, meaning that there could be some fairly big changes to the daily details.
Surf and the Water
The tides quickly picking up to large springs, peaking with highs of over 10m, shortly after dusk on both Friday and Saturday. The surf is uncertain at the moment, due to the various different tracks that the Biscay low-pressure system might take. My current expectation is for Tuesday and Wednesday to be about 4 feet and clean, with Thursday through to the weekend looking similarly clean but probably smaller. However, a small change in the movement of that weather-system could result in very different waves and winds.
The next forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening.
