Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Friday 18/09/2020

Friday

The Weather

The fresh to strong ENE’ly wind will persist for another day. As for the weather; it’s looking like a very sunny morning and a cloudier afternoon. The evening sky might look as though it’s threatening us with showers, but they will probably remain over Brittany until Saturday morning. The temperatures the same as on Thursday... max 20°C, min 16°C.

Surf and The Water

Another day of flat surf, but excellent windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions. The tides will be even bigger and there could well be some difficult driving conditions along the east coast, especially in the evening... 9.7m high at 8am, 0.7m low at 2:20pm and about 10.1m high at 8:20pm.

Saturday

The Weather

It’s very uncertain what time the showers will arrive from France, but they will probably be quite heavy, coming in a couple of bands in the morning and evening, with a lengthy dry but rather cloudy interlude. During that dry time, the temperature should reach the same heights as the previous days, because this time the ENE’ly wind will be much lighter (just force 3-4).

Surf and The Water

Powerful swell will turn up from Hurricane Paulette (probably 3 feet increasing to 5 feet). It will have travelled a very long way so the intervals between the waves and the lulls between the sets will be very long. I’m not sure what the quality of these waves will be like, but there will probably be plenty of swell wrapping onto the north and south coasts as well as the west. This time, despite the favourable winds, there will be some pretty big high-tide splashes on the west coast roads as well as the east, so be sure to drive and park carefully. Those tides... 9.9m high at 8:40am, 0.5m low at 3pm and about 10.2m high at 9pm.

Sunday

The Weather

The same light to moderate ENE’ly breezes and a threat of showers in the morning, However, we are probably looking at a dry and sunny afternoon, which should take our temperature to a very pleasant max of 21-22°C.

Surf and The Water

Lovely clean 3-foot surf, with plenty of smooth water for swimming (especially at the northern ends of the west-coast bays). The tides... 9.9m high at 9:20am and 0.6m low at 3:40pm.

Monday and Tuesday

The Weather

These are likely to be the most settled days in what is set to become a very different week from the one that preceded it. The sky will be a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine, the showers very few and very light. Most importantly the winds will be very light; near-calm on Monday and then a gentle SW’ly on Tuesday. Monday (probably the sunniest day) should see a lovely warm max temp of 21°C, then Wednesday will probably only peak at 20°C.

Surf and The Water

Particularly gorgeous glassy water all around the island on Monday for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding, then on Tuesday it will be best to head north or east for such smoothness. Both days should have 1-2 feet of surf in the more exposed western locations. The tides getting slightly smaller now but still over 9m on the highs. Those highs in the late mornings and the lows in the late afternoons.

The Rest of Next Week

The Weather

A stormy end to the working week, with a mixture of very wet weather very windy weather and an overlap of the two. The wind direction will be starting SSW’ly but then becoming very uncertain, depending on the track of the stormy weather-system. Temperatures therefore starting off on the mild side, but possibly trending towards cold or possibly not (time will tell).

Surf and The Water

Plenty of big waves but probably rather choppy and sloppy, due to the close proximity of the storm that generated them. Likely some excellent wind-surfing conditions on Wednesday and Thursday (Friday very uncertain). The tides becoming very small, finishing off with a high of less than 7m around lunchtime on Friday.

The next forecast update will be with you on Sunday.
