Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 21/09/2020

Monday

Weather

Perhaps a little cloud in the morning, but not as much as on Sunday. Otherwise, we are just talking about a gloriously sunny day with a gentle NE’ly breeze (max temp 22°C). Gorgeous everywhere, but the absolute best of it will probably be on the south coast in the afternoon. With the tide sooo low, then Jaonnet Bay will be well worth a cheeky visit. The key message is ‘make the most of it’, as this might well be the last 2020 day that reeeally feels like summer.

Surf and the Water

Just some dribbly 1-2 foot waves left over from the weekend swell. Gorgeous conditions for swimming and paddle-boarding on all coasts though. The tides are still large though so the currents can be stronger than the glassy conditions might suggest. High water roughly 9.5m at 10am, low water roughly 1m at 4:20pm.

Tuesday

Weather

As I implied in the Monday text, we will now be on a downward slope, but don’t worry, the change won’t be too sudden. The bulk of the day will have a mixture of cloudy spells and bright or sunny intervals, with a gentle to moderate WSW’ly breeze. The only really dodgy moments will be early morning when we have some mist and hill-fog, and then through the evening when we have some patchy rain and drizzle.

Surf and the Water

For surfers, it’s just the dribbly 1-2 footers again. For swimmers, either get in super-early to get ahead of the wind-chop, or just head to the east coast for shelter if you are going any later in the day. The tides… high water roughly 9m at 10:40am, low water roughly 1.7m at 5pm.

Wednesday

Weather

Cloudy with occasional heavy showers and only the briefest of sunny interludes. The temperature only climbing to about 17°C in most part of the island (maybe 18°C in Town), as the moderate to fresh W’ly wind brings progressively cooler air to the region.

Surf and the Water

The surf still choppy, but getting up to a more useful height of about 3 feet. The best swimming conditions will definitely be on the east coast in the morning, and maybe down at Petit Bot or Moulin Huet in the afternoon. The tides… high water roughly 8.3m at 11:20am, low water roughly 2.6m at 5:40pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Summer will feel like a distant memory as we continue with a scenario of frequent heavy showers, punctuated by rainbows and brief sunny spells. Both days will feel much cooler than any days we have had for a long time. The temperature only peaking at about 15°C and the wind strong force 6-7 (W’ly on Thursday and N’ly on Friday).

Surf and the Water

Some very large and very choppy surf. I reckon that the body-boarding and body-surfing conditions will be pretty good at Petit Bot on Friday though (in the bottom half of the tide). Small tides now, with the highs at lunchtime and the lows at dinnertime.

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday will remain on the cold side, but it actually looks sunny, dry and not nearly so windy. Sunday will probably be cloudier, with a risk of the odd light shower, but with the wind returning to a W’ly direction, it might just be a degree or two warmer than Saturday.

Surf and the Water

Smoother seas on Saturday afternoon, might lead to some smaller but better quality surf. Probably getting choppy again on Sunday though. The tides staying very small, with highs in the mid-afternoons.

The next forecast update should be with you on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
