Guernsey Weather Fox

7-day Forecast. Starting Monday 28/09/2020

Monday

Weather

A rather cloudy day on the whole. That cloud occasionally thickening to give a brief light shower, and occasionally thinning to give a little sunshine. Most importantly, the wind will be much lighter than the last few days, and it will back to a W’ly direction, allowing warmer air to woft over the islands, picking temperatures up to a max of 17-18°C.

Surf and The Water

On the west coast we should have 3-4 foot surf that won’t be perfectly clean, but it should be much better than anything that was on offer over the weekend. Over on the east coast (and the south coast during the morning), the water should be lovely and smooth for swimming and maybe a bit of paddle-boarding. The tides 3.1m low at 11:30am and 7.9m high at 5:30pm.

Tuesday

Weather

A mixed bag of cloud and sunshine, but probably staying dry throughout. The wind just a gentle WNW’ly and feeling very pleasant with another max temp of 17-18°C.

Surf and The Water

The west coast surf should be a similar size to Monday (only a teeny bit smaller) and a little bit cleaner. Once again the east coast will be the best area for swimming and paddle-boarding, closely followed by south coast spots like Moulin Huet, Saint’s Bay and Petit Bot.

Wednesday

Weather

And it’s downhill we roll again. The wind becoming fresh to strong (SSW’ly for most of the day, but veering WNW’ly by dusk). The skies; cloudy with some pretty heavy showers, occasionally merging into longer spells of rain.

Surf and The Water

Small clean surf for most of the day, which could be pretty fun, then a very choppy onshore mess towards dusk. The tides just over 8.5m high shortly before dawn, and just under 9m high at dusk.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Some very stormy conditions, with high rainfall totals (10-20mm daily) and S’ly or SW’ly gales likely. The most uncertain thing is the timing of the nastiest conditions, so you will have to keep an eye on the forecast updates regarding that. The temperatures will peak at about 16-17°C in the afternoons, then falling to 11 or 12°C in the overnight periods.

Surf and The Water

With 6-8 foot waves, sometimes clean and sometimes messy, there will be some pretty exciting conditions for both surfers and windsurfers (generally for those at the expert end of the spectrum). The tidal movements wil be fairly large, with lows at lunchtime and highs around dawn and dusk (generally slightly over 9m).

The Weekend

Weather

Staying stormy, with just as much wind and just as much rain as Thursday and Friday. Once again, the timing of the nastiest conditions will not be clear until much nearer the time.

Surf and The Water

The surf will probably get even bigger, and the tides will generally peak at about 9.2m around breakfast time and shortly after dusk. Expect some very large splashes on the west coast roads, but probably no flooding.

The next forecast update should be with you on Tuesday evening.
