Monday and Tuesday
Weather
The first half of Monday, should be very similar to the second half of Sunday. In other words, persistent rain (sometimes heavy, sometimes light) but always pretty close to horizontal, thanks to the strong force 6-7 W’ly wind. After that, we should see an alternating pattern of lengthy dry spells (sometimes sunny) and brief blustery showers. The max temperature should be about 15°C on both days. Nothing special, but certainly better than we just had over the weekend.
Surf and the Water
If you are a super-keen daily dipper, then Fermain will certainly be your best bet for a relatively comfortable swim. As for the surf, well obviously that is going to be a total mess, but I’m sure a few expert kite-surfers and windsurfers will still have some fun with it. The tides will be high shortly after 9am, 8.9m on Monday and 8.6m on Tuesday. Low tides in the mid afternoons.
Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
In another relatively rotten week, these could be considered some of the better days. Wednesday, because it should be mostly if not entirely dry, with a gentler W’ly wind than the previous days, allowing the temperature to creep as high as 16°C.Then Thursday, will probably turn wet towards the end of the day, but a full day of SSW’ly, should bring warmer air to the islands (albeit cloudy), enabling us to go all the way to 17°C.
Surf and the Water
Some lovely looking surf in the region of 3-5 feet on Thursday (and maybe quite nice on Wednesday too). Medium-sized tides with highs in the mid-mornings and lows in the late afternoons.
Friday
Weather
This is very much at the uncertain end of the forecast period, but the current expectation is that the foul weather of late-Thursday, should have all cleared eastwards, as high pressure builds to the west of us. This will put us in a rather cool NW’ly airflow, which will be sunny for the most part, with excellent visibility. There could be the odd shower developing, as that cool air blows over the relatively warm Channel. However, that‘s more likely to be a problem for Jersey than for us.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be messy but rideable, and the best swimming conditions will be on the east and south coasts around the late morning high tide.
The Weekend
Weather
Staying with the relatively cold sunshine, as the airflow gradually veers to a due N’ly. Rather like on Friday, the risk of showers should be fairly small, but it certainly isn’t out of the question.
Surf and the Water
Very little tidal movement, with just a hint of high tide around lunchtime both days. The west-coast surf will be a bit choppy but it should still be rideable and fun, and the best swimming conditions will generally be down south.
