Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Wednesday 07/10/2020

Wednesday

Weather

A dry and reasonably bright morning. The biggest improvement on the previous days will be the fact that the W’ly wind is only moderate force 4, so it won’t feel nearly as cold as of late. We should hit a max of about 16°C at lunchtime, but I’m afraid it’s downhill from there, as the cloud will thicken to bring drizzly rain by mid-afternoon and the wind will freshen up to a force 5 SW’ly.

Surf and the water

Some cleaner conditions for surfers on this day. The waves about 4-5 feet and probably best in the afternoon, if anywhere is working ok with the tide... 8.1m high at 10am, dropping to a low of 2.7m at 4:20pm.

Thursday

Weather

Fresh SW’ly winds will bring cloudy skies and patchy rain throughout the day. The morning’s rain likely to be light and punctuated by lengthy dry spells. However, the afternoon and evening will probably be much wetter, giving us another 5-10mm (we’ve already had more rain than would generally be expected for the entire month). As for the temperature; mild by day (17°C max) and cool by night (11-12°C min).

Surf and the Water

The surf should be 3-4 feet and reasonably clean, with medium-sized tides... 7.8m high at 10:30am and 3.2m low at 4:40pm.

Friday

Weather

Not too bad a day actually, with a rather cool NW’ly breeze bringing sunny spells and excellent visibility. There could be the old shower during the day, due to the cool air blowing over the relatively warm Channel. However, it probably won’t be until dusk that any more persistent rain sets in.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be medium-small and rather choppy, but the swimming conditions should be pretty pleasant on the east and south coasts. High water will be about 7.3m at 11:10am, followed by a low of about 3.6m at 7:30pm.

The Weekend

Weather

Staying chilly, as the airflow gradually veers from a NW’ly to a due N’ly. Both days should see a mix of sunshine and showers, however the ratios will be very different, with sunshine being in the minority on Saturday but holding a strong majority through Sunday. The temperatures should peak at about 14°C in the early afternoons, then fall to about 10 or 11°C during the nights.

Surf and the Water

Very little tidal movement, with just a hint of high tide around lunchtime both days. The west-coast surf will be a bit choppy but it should still offer some rideable and fun if you are keen. The best swimming conditions will generally be down on the south coast, especially on Sunday.

Next Week

Weather

Apart from the odd shower (mainly in the second half of the week, forming in the Dover Strait and funnelling along the Channel), we should be in for a mostly dry time (we certainly deserve it). The winds will gradually veer through the week from a N’ly to NE’ly. This will generally keep temperatures a little lower than average, but it should still feel lovely if you go for a walk on a sheltered south-coast cliff-path.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be tiny and choppy I’m afraid, but the swimming conditions will remain very pleasant down on the south coast. The tidal movements will start off very small, with a high of less than 7m on Monday, but they will steadily become large, with highs of over 9m on Thursday and Friday.

###The next forecast update should be with you on Thursday evening or Friday morning.
