Guernsey Weather Fox

7+day Forecast. Starting Friday 09/10/2020

Friday

Weather

Not too bad a day actually, with a moderate force 4 WNW’ly breeze bringing sunny spells and excellent visibility. There’s an outside chance of isolated showers during the daytime. However, we are more likely to stay dry until around dusk, when a more organised band of showers sweeps across the area. Today’s max 14-5°C, tonight’s min 11-12°C.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf will be 3-4 feet and increasing choppy (get in early for the best of it), but the swimming conditions should be pretty pleasant on the east and south coasts. High water will be about 7.3m at 11:10am, followed by a low of about 3.6m at 7:30pm.

Saturday

Weather

Very similar to Friday in terms of the weather... Sunshine and showers, with those showers tending to focus on the second half of the day, whilst the first half will probably be dry. There will be a small difference in the wind, which will lead to a general cooler feeling, this time it’s a fresh force 5 NW’ly and the temperature should be just 14°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf should be 2-3 feet and very choppy. The tidal movements will be pretty tiny though... with a high of roughly 6.8m at midday (perfect for a quick dip at somewhere like Saints or Fermain).

Sunday

Weather

After a few showers in the first half of the morning, they should be so sparsely scattered that we will most likely stay dry for the rest of the day. The sunny spell should be bright and lengthy, but I’m afraid they won’t be enough to lift temperatures any higher. The wind will be a moderate to fresh N’ly, so simply head to the sheltered south-coast to feel a bit warmer.

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf conditions will be just as poor as on Saturday, but the swimming conditions should be pretty pleasant all along the south coast. This time, high water will be just under 6.7m at 1:30pm.

Monday to Wednesday

Weather

Staying chilly and unfortunately getting wetter again. Every day, the showers are likely to be rather frequent and heavy, perhaps even merging into spells of more persistent rain. The wind will be fresh to strong W’ly on Monday, when Town should take the top temperature of about 15°C. Then on Tuesday and Wednesday, the wind will veer N’ly and the South coast should scoop the max temperature, which will only be about 14°C.

Surf and the Water

The surf will remain small and choppy I’m afraid. However, we might just luck into the odd brief moment when the wind falls light and conditions become clean. Keep an eye on it and don’t get too disappointed if it never happens. Swimmers should stick to the sheltered coasts and shoot for the high tides, which will be during the afternoons and steadily getting larger (up to about 8.5m by Wednesday).

The Rest of Next Week

Weather

Confidence is low, so don’t make any rigid plans based on this forecast. However, it does look as though we will probably have 3-4 dry sunny and settled days. The temperatures not too lofty, but with very light winds, we might achieve daily maxima of 15-16°C. However, on the flip side, the nightly minima will probably be down to single figures.

Surf and Tide

The west-coast surf should at least be clean, and with low pressure systems in the mid-Atlantic, there is a good chance of some decent sized waves. Spring tides, with highs around dawn and dusk (exceeding 10m at the weekend).

The next forecast update should be with you on Sunday evening.
